Cowgirls Capture Beach Classic Opener

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Oklahoma State's Jennifer Crow scored a game-high 22 points and freshman Coleman Smith added 10 as the Cowgirls defeated the Detroit Titans, 79-61, here Sunday night in the first round of the Beach Classic, hosted by Long Beach State University.
OSU finished the game shooting 50 percent from the floor on 26-of-52 shots. The Cowgirls also connected on 24-of-28 attempts from the free-throw line, good for an 85.7 percent performance.
The Cowgirls limited Detroit to just 29.6 percent from the floor, although the Titans did make 14-of-15 free throws. Stephanie Gray led UDM with 17 points in the game, while Tia Winters added 10.
OSU led by as many as 20 early in the second half when the Cowgirls scored the first four points of the period and were up, 49-29. Detroit cut into the lead, but never got closer than 14 points at the 8:20 mark.
Every eligible OSU player got into the game, including Toya Releford, who became eligible once the semester was over. She had two rebounds, a block and a steal in seven minutes of play. Kourtney Bower led OSU with six rebounds, and also had six assists and no turnovers. She now has 33 assists this season with just seven turnovers, leading the Big 12 Conference.
Oklahoma State (6-1) will play the winner of the Long Beach State-East Tennessee State game on Monday night at 9:30 p.m. central time.
