STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State Cowgirl basketball announced today the signing of Tari Cummings, a junior college All-American from Westark Community College in Ft. Smith, Ark. She is the fifth player to ink with OSU for the 1999-2000 season.
A 5-10 foward originally from Pocola, Okla., Cummings ranked fourth nationally in scoring, averaging 23.2 points per game. She had six 30-plus point games, including a season-high 39 vs. Western Oklahoma Junior College.
This is big-time for us, because shes an All-American, said OSU Associate Head Coach Jack Easley. Shell probably step right in (next season) at either the three or four spot. Shes a very skilled player, very physical and very tough, with a tremendous work ethic. Tari will not only be a great player, but also a great ambassador for our program.
Cummings led the Lady Lions to a 21-3 record in Region II and a final ranking of 10th in the NJCAA Division I poll. The Lady Lions lost to Connors State College, 89-85 in overtime, in the district finals.
Cummings also averaged 9.2 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game while shooting 64.4 percent from the floor and 80.2 percent from the free-throw line. She also connected on 7-of-17 three point attempts, good for 41.2 percent.
I chose Oklahoma State because I felt comfortable with the players and coaches, said Cummings. I feel like I can make an impact with the team, and this is the place for me.
Cummings chose Oklahoma State over Arkansas and Memphis.
