Cowboys defeat Wichita State 6-1

STILLWATER, Okla. - Led by senior Rob Howarth, Oklahoma State's Cowboy tennis team defeated regional rival Wichita State Tuesday at the DuBois Tennis Complex.
Howarth extended his win streak to three matches with his win over Daniel Sewell. Last weekend, he defeated Colorado's 91st-ranked Dony Papadia 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and 100th-ranked Dinko Verzi of Nebraska 6-1, 6-1.
"Rob has been playing very well lately," head coach James Wadley said. "He has made the transition from No. 5 to No. 1. We wish that he could come back for one more year."
Oklahoma State (8-11, 1-7 Big 12) won every doubles match as 47th-ranked Howarth and Matthew Prentice defeated Sewell and Mark Mullins 8-4. The tandem of Jeremy Ewert and Jacques du Toit defeated Chad Bender and Paul Wooldridge by a score of 8-4. Gordon Ryan and Marc Paulik also added another 8-4 victory for the Cowboys.
In singles, the Cowboys got wins from Prentice, du Toit, and Ryan. Paulik also added a win after Wooldridge defaulted due to an injury. Paulik led 7-5, 4-1 the default.
Oklahoma State will continue play this week as they face intrastate rival Oklahoma in Norman on Thursday. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. The Cowboys will close out the regular season with a match against Kansas Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the DuBois Tennis Complex.
