OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Ryan Sears hit a 3-pointer with 57.7 seconds left and Doug Swenson made 3-of-4 foul shots in the last minute as Creighton rallied to beat No. 18 Oklahoma State 66-60 on Sunday.
The loss by the Cowboys (6-3) spoiled the return to the Omaha Civic Auditorium of Oklahoma State coach Eddie Sutton, whose first job as a Division I coach came at Creighton from 1969-74.
It also marked the second upset of the year for the Bluejays (7-2), who also beat Iowa 75-73 in Iowa City on Nov. 25.
It was Creighton's first victory against a ranked non-conference opponent at home since Sutton's Bluejays beat No. 7 Houston in February 1973. The Jays' last win over a ranked team came against No. 11 New Mexico State in the first round of the 1991 NCAA tournament.
Oklahoma State led 41-36 with 15:34 to play after Adrian Peterson was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer and hit three free throws. But the Bluejays used a 10-3 run over the next two minutes, capped by Sears' 3-pointer with 13 minutes left.
Neither team was able to establish control until Creighton made 3-pointers on three straight trips down the floor. One of them came from 6-foot-9 Alan Huss with 2:50 left, pulling the Jays to 58-57.
Desmond Mason's 12-foot jumper in the lane gave the Cowboys a 60-57 lead with 2:33 to play, but it would be their final points.
Rodney Buford, who didn't start as a penalty for being late to practice earlier in the week, tied it with a 3-pointer with 1:50 to play and Sears hit his critical 3-pointer off an inbounds play.
Peterson missed a 3-point try at the other end and Swenson iced the game for the Bluejays by hitting the free throws.
Oklahoma State's last chances dried up when Doug Gottlieb, who had six turnovers, threw the ball out of bounds with 15.4 seconds left and Peterson missed a useless 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Creighton students rushed the floor and mobbed the players while Sutton, who sat with his chin on his hand throughout the second half, walked off the court.
