Cowboys Sign Williams to Letter of Intent

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Kansas City, Kan., native Andre Williams has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Oklahoma State, the Cowboys announced today.
Williams, a 6-9, 200-pound forward, led Schlagle High School to the Kansas Class 6A quarterfinals last season and will spend this year at Maine Central Institute. He averaged 13 points, 14 rebounds and 13 blocked shots as a senior at Schlagle. He is ranked as the nation's No. 21 power forward by Future Stars.
"We're very excited that Andre has joined our program," said OSU coach Eddie Sutton. "He'll make an excellent addition to our team and will really give our front line a boost. He's a tremendous athlete who can run the floor and block shots; he's very active and is a good rebounder."
Max Good, Williams' coach at Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine, also has high praise for the Cowboys' first signee of the 1998-99 season.
"Andre is an outstanding athlete with very quick feet and great timing," said Good. "He is a shot-blocker deluxe. And I think his offense will catch up with his defense and rebounding, because he can step outside and hit a 12- to 15-footer."
OSU, which currently has two scholarships available, closes its exhibition schedule with a 7:05 p.m. game against Athletes First tonight. The 13th-ranked Cowboys begin the regular season Monday, when they host Northwestern (La.) State.
