Cowboys' Men's Tennis to Compete in NCAA Tournament

STILLWATER, Okla. - Cowboy tennis team Rob Howarth and Matt Prentice were selected to compete in the NCAA tournament in Athens, Ga. May 26-30 as automatic selections.
The selection of teams and individuals is based on won-loss record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes. Each region receives automatic entry for four singles players and two doubles teams.
Senior Rob Howarth was chosen to represent Region V in singles play. He has posted a 13-6 overall this season, and is ranked 97th nationally. He has won six matches in a row, including four victories over ranked opponents. In his last outing, he defeated Colorado's Dony Papadia 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the Big 12 tournament.
Howarth and freshman Matt Prentice will represent Region V in doubles play. The tandem has posted a 12-5 overall record this year and is ranked 36th nationally. In their first outing of the year, the duo defeated then top-ranked Dumitry Caradimo and Shuon Madden of Texas A&M 9-7.
Other NCAA automatic selections from Region V include Gareth Williams and Nenad Toroman from Tulsa and Luis Uribe from Kansas in singles. Doubles selections also include Toroman and Williams of Tulsa.
The seeding for the individual championships will take place on May 24.
Howarth and Prentice Named to All-Big 12 Team
Two members of Oklahoma State's Cowboy tennis team were
selected to the 1999 All-Big 12 Conference tennis team. The all-conference
teams were selected by a vote of the league's head coaches.
