Cowboy Netters Fall in BellSouth Classic

LAFAYETTE, La. -- Two Oklahoma State men's tennis players made it past the first round of action in the BellSouth Mobility Collegiate Tennis Classic on Friday, but all four players were knocked out by the end of the day.
In Flight A competition, Jacque Dutoit and Rob Howarth both recorded opening-round wins against their respective opponents. Dutoit beat Southern Mississippi's Felix Hutt, 6-4, 6-3, while Howarth handed Emanuel Sjoblom of Lamar a 6-2, 6-4 loss.
Dutoit loss in the second round to Alex Gamez of Northeast Louisiana, 6-3, 6-2. Howarth fell against Troy State's Willie Campos, 6-3, 6-3.
The two Cowboys paired up in the Flight A doubles bracket, but couldn't escape the Texas duo of Stephen Patak and Andrew Irving in an 8-6 loss.
In Flight B, Chris Pregler won the first set against Troy State's Clete Browder but didn't hold on as he lost, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. In a consolation match against Scott Dilloff of Tulane, Pregler couldn't prevail in a 6-2, 6-4 loss.
Jeremy Ewert defeated Northeast Louisiana's Bozo Markovic, 7-5, 6-1, but couldn't survive past Derya Rose of Tulane in the second round as Ewert fell, 6-4, 7-5.
The tandem of Pregler and Ewert fell to the LSU-Troy State duo of Samir Shameih and Clete Browder, 8-5 in Flight B doubles competition.
The only time OSU has won a championship in the BellSouth Mobility Collegiate Tennis Classic was in 1990. That year, Eric Fahnestock and Justin Stead defeated the Fjellstrom-Truyol team from Southeastern Louisiana, 6-2, 6-3, to bring home the doubles championship.
