HONOLULU (AP) - Brian Montonati came off the bench to score 14 points and pull down 11 rebounds Friday night to lead No. 13 Oklahoma State to a 58-37 victory over cold-shooting Hawaii in the championship game of the VoiceStream Wireless Challenge.
Montonati led a 23-2 run early in the second half as the Cowboys (3-0) pulled away after struggling to a 27-22 halftime lead.
After Philipp Czernin scored for the Rainbows (1-2) at the start of the second half, Oklahoma State went on runs of 12-0 and 11-0 to turn the game into a rout.
Montonati, Desmond Mason and Adrian Peterson each scored four points during the first spurt and Montonati had six and Mason five in the second as Oklahoma State built the lead to 25 points.
Mason finished with 13 points and Peterson 12.
Hawaii, which was held to its lowest point total since 1982, had no players in double-figures as Oklahoma State put on a tight man-to-man defensive clamp on the Rainbows' shooters. Erin Galloway led Hawaii with nine points.
The Rainbows didn't help their cause offensively, shooting 35 percent (17-for-48), including 6-for-25 over the final 20 minutes. For the game, they missed all six 3-point attempts and committed 16 turnovers.
