DALLAS -- The Big 12 Conference will place approximately 1,400 all-session tickets to the 1999 Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Tournament on sale starting Monday, February 15, through Ticketmaster outlets. The tournament runs from March 4-7 at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Mo.
"These all-session tickets were returned by the member institutions after they fullfilled their on-campus and alumni needs for 1999," Big 12 Associate Commissioner Tim Allen said. "We view this as a unique opportunity to open the gates to fans who have not been able to acquire tickets in the past."
The price of a single, all-session ticket is $180, which equates to $30 per session or about $15 per game. Ticketmaster has outlets in six of the seven Big 12 states and offers fans an opportunity to purchase the tickets via outlets, the telephone or the internet at www.ticketmaster.com. Interested fans can call their local Ticketmaster or the Kansas City office at 816/931-3330. In Kansas City, fans may also go by the Kemper Arena and Municipal Auditorium box offices to purchase the available tickets. Additional fees may apply from Ticketmaster.
The 1999 tournament will mark the second year the Big 12 has had tickets returned from institutions. "We were caught somewhat by surprise last year but developed a plan to distribute remaining tickets this year," Allen said. "So far, we have had good response and now plan to turn sales over to Ticketmaster. We appreciate their assistance."
Allen indicated that the Conference will offer the tickets in all-session form until Monday, March 1, and then determine when to break out the tickets into individual sessions if there are remaining tickets.
As an incentive, the Conference will allow patrons who purchase the tickets through Ticketmaster to the 1999 tournament in all-session booklets an opportunity to place their name on a waiting list for annual renewal rights.
"This could afford fans annual access to tickets when they are available from the school allotments," Allen said. "Accommodations may also be made for those individual currently on the Big 12 renewal list to possibly purchase additional tickets annually."
Allen indicated that approximately 17,000 all-session tickets to the event already have been sold.
Tickets for the 1999 Big 12 Women's Basketball Tournament March 2,3,4,6 at Municpal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo., are also available at Ticketmaster.
