COWGIRLS PLAY WEST VIRGINIA - Oklahoma State travels to Charleston, W. Va., for a New Year's Eve contest with the West Virginia Mountaineers. Tipoff is set for noon (11 a.m. CST). The Cowgirls are 7-3 and coming off an 87-76 victory over Washington in the championship game of the Seattle Times Classic. West Virginia is 4-5, having lost to Lehigh, 89-73, and No. 24 Tulane, 104-75, in New Orleans Monday and Tuesday in the DoubleTree Classic.
COMING UP - Oklahoma State will return to Gallagher-Iba Arena for the first time in a month when the Cowgirls host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday, Jan. 3, at 7 p.m. The last game for OSU in Stillwater was on Dec. 2, when the Cowgirls defeated Southwest Missouri State, 66-58. Oklahoma State will begin the conference season on Jan. 8, as the Cowgirls travel to College Station, Texas, for a contest with the Texas A&M Lady Aggies.
CUMMINGS EARNS BIG 12 HONOR - Junior Tari Cummings was named the Big 12 Conference's Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 19. During that span of two games, she averaged 26.5 points and 11.5 rebounds, including career highs of 33 points and 15 boards vs. Washington. She is the first Cowgirl to earn the honor since Renee Roberts won it on Feb. 3, 1997.
LAST TIME - Oklahoma State overcame a 12-point deficit in the second half and junior Tari Cummings scored 33 points, earning the Most Valuable Player honor, as the Cowgirls defeated Washington, 87-76, in the championship game of the Seattle Times Classic. Cummings scored her 33 points, a career high, on 14-of-18 shooting from the floor. She also pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Senior Jennifer Crow scored 22 points and was perfect from the line, going 9-of-9. She was also named to the all-tournament team. UW pulled away in the first half, getting up by as many as 14 points before going into the lockerroom ahead, 45-33. The Huskies maintained the 12-point lead with 15:29 remaining in the game. Oklahoma State cut the lead to six, and then tied the game when freshman Chantoya Hawkins hit a pair of free throws to make the score 61-61. OSU pulled away at that point, hitting 14 consecutive free throws. Meanwhile, the Huskies, who had hit six three pointers in the game, missed on all three attempts from behind the arc in the final two minutes of the game.
COACH DICK HALTERMAN - Dick Halterman is entering his 17th season as the head coach for the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, and brings with him a 294-190 career mark at OSU. Halterman has guided the Cowgirls to eight postseason appearances in the last 11 years, including seven NCAA Tournament appearances (last in 1996) and one Women's NIT appearance (1998). Under Halterman, 13 Cowgirls have been named first-team all-conference, while 27 student-athletes have achieved first-team academic all-conference status. He is a two-time conference Coach of the Year, and was the District V Coach of the Year in 1991. Halterman has taken two conference All-Star teams abroad, including this past August, when he led the Big 12 All-Stars on a tour of Finland and Sweden. That team finished with a 5-1 record.

HALTERMAN ON RADIO/TV - During the 1999-2000 season, fans can catch up with the Cowgirl head coach on both the radio and television. The Coach Halterman Radio Show will be broadcast every Monday evening >from 5:30 - 6 p.m. on KGFY-105.5 FM in Stillwater. The Coach Halterman Television Show will be broadcast on Tuesday's at 7 p.m. on KWEM-TV 31 in Stillwater, which is Channel 3 on Peak Cablevision. Casey Kendrick, program manager at KWEM, will host both the radio and television shows.
COWGIRL BASKETBALL ON THE AIR - Once again during the 1999-2000 season, the Oklahoma State women's basketball games will be broadcast live on KGFY-105.5 FM in Stillwater, part of Stillwater Radio. Kevin Gum, in his 10th season with the Cowgirl broadcast, will handle play-by-play duties, while Casey Kendrick, in his fifth season on the air, will provide color analysis. Fans outside the Stillwater broadcast range will be able to listen to the broadcasts via the internet at www.okstate.com. Gum and Kendrick will be on the air 30 minutes prior to tipoff with pregame analysis, as well as interviews with Coach Halterman and various Cowgirl players.
CROW BACK FOR FINAL SEASON - Cowgirl Jennifer Crow is back for her final season in a Cowgirl uniform, and is looking to move up several OSU career statistical charts. She became the 14th player in school history to record 1,000 points in a career, and she currently ranks seventh on the all-time points scored list with 1,372. Jennifer needs 10 points to move past Stacy Coffey for sixth (1,381) and 43 to surpass Liz Brown (5th with 1,418). She already holds the school record for three-pointers made (163) and attempted (434) in a career. Jennifer was named third-team All-Big 12 last season, and was honored as a second-team Academic All-American her junior year. She ranks eighth in career scoring average at 14.3 ppg, fifth in free-throw percentage at 81.4 percent, and fifth in three-point shooting at 37.7 percent. CROW AT THE LINE - Senior Jennifer Crow set an OSU school record vs. Lamar when she was successful on 12-of-12 trips to the free-throw line. She broke the previous record of 10-of-10, set by Crista Troester in 1983, and duplicated four times since, the most recent time by Cheri Edwards in 1998. One game later vs. Tulsa, Jennifer broke her own record by connecting on 13-of-13 free throws. Crow set another school record from the charity stripe by connecting on 30 consecutive free throws. The previous record was 28, set by Jamie Siess in 1987-88. Jennifer made her last three attempts vs. Illinois, then was a perfect 25-of-25 vs. Lamar and Tulsa. She hit her first two vs. Oral Roberts, but then missed her 31st attempt. She is currently shooting 90.3 percent (65-of-72) from the line. Jennifer also owns the top two single-game free-throw shooting honors.

TRIO TAKING CHARGE - After 10 games this season, Oklahoma State has four players averaging at least 8.5 points per game, and three are averaging more than six rebounds per game. Jennifer Crow leads the team in scoring, averaging 20.7 points per game, including a career-high 28 vs. Long Beach State. She is also averaging 6.3 rebounds per contest. Junior Tari Cummings is averaging 18.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, including careers highs in points (33) and rebounds (15) vs. Washington. Sophomore Kara Faulk is averaging 8.5 ppg and 7.1 boards per game, while freshman Chantoya Hawkins is averaging 10.1 points per contest.
FRESHMEN DUO GETTING PT - Freshmen Chantoya Hawkins and Shelby Hutchens have each started eight games this season, the most starts by a true freshman since 1993-94, when Cheri Edwards started 28 in her first season as a Cowgirl. The last time two true freshmen started at least six games was in 1992-93, when Stacy Coffey, Amy Scales and Yogi York started 32, 32, and 31, respectively.
BIG 12 INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS - Cowgirl Jennifer Crow and Tari Cummings rank two-three in the Big 12 Conference in scoring, behind only Texas' Edwina Brown. Cummings is second in rebounding at 9.6 boards per game, behind Keitha Dickerson of Texas Tech (10.4 rpg). Kara Faulk ranks 18th in overall rebounding at 7.1 per game. OSU has three players ranked in the top 10 in free-throw percentage, as Jessica Spinner ranks second, Crow third and Cummings eighth. Crow also ranks sixth in assists per game (4.9), and three-pointers made per game (2.2). Chantoya Hawkins ranks 10th in the conference in steals, averaging 2.5 per contest.
BIG 12 TEAM RANKINGS - Oklahoma State is in the top half of the league in just six statistical categories, but is still in seventh place in the Big 12 standings. The Cowgirls are the top free-throw shooting team in the conference, connecting on 77.6 percent of the shots from the line. OSU is third in three-pointers made per game, averaging five treys per contest. The Cowgirls are sixth in rebounding defensive, giving up just 35.8 boards per game. OSU is also sixth in the league in steals per game, averaging 10.7 thefts per contest. The Cowgirls are also sixth in turnover margin, turning the ball over 2.3 less times per game than their opponents.
OSU 61st IN RPI - Oklahoma State moved up to 61st in the most recent edition of the Ratings Percentage Index. The Cowgirls have a .5779 RPI. Texas Tech is the top-ranked OSU opponent in the RPI, ranked fifth. Illinois is ranked 14th, while Southwest Missouri State is 23rd. West Virginia, OSU's opponent this week, is ranked 169th.

- Junior Tari Cummings has six double-doubles in points and rebounds this season, including four of the last five games.

ABOUT THE MOUNTAINEERS - West Virginia is 4-5 this season, and coming off consecutive losses in the DoubleTree Classic in New Orleans. The Mountaineers lost to Lehigh, 89-76, before losing to 24th-ranked Tulane, 104-75, Tuesday night. WVU is led by junior forward Brandi Batch, who is averaging 13.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She is also shooting 55.7 percent from the floor. Senior Mandy Ronay is averaging 12.4 points per contest, while sophomore Val Zona is pitching in 10.9 ppg. The Mountaineers are coached by Alexis Basil, who is in her third season as head coach for West Virginia and has a career record of 26-38.
SERIES HISTORY - Oklahoma State and West Virginia have never met on the hardwood, although OSU has played five games vs. teams from the Big East. The Cowgirls have split games with Miami, Fla. (1-1) and Rutgers (1-1), and are 1-0 vs. Seton Hall. In Oklahoma State's last game vs. a Big East school, the Cowgirls defeated the Pirates of Seton Hall, 71-56, in the MCI-First American Classic in Nashville, Tenn.
