Saturday's Game
Oklahoma State looks to remain unbeaten when the Cowboys host the North Texas Mean Green on Saturday. OSU opened its season last weekend with victories over Appalachian State and Idaho while North Texas opened the season with a home defeat to Sun Belt Conference favorite Louisiana Tech. The Cowboys began their road schedule with a 93-64 victory against Arkansas-Little Rock on Tuesday.
OSU-North Texas: The Series
Oklahoma State has won all nine previous meetings between the Cowboys and the Mean Green. The Cowboys last played North Texas on Nov. 29, 1997, when OSU came out on top 98-60 in a game played in Stillwater. Five of the previous matchups between OSU and UNT occurred before 1960. Eddie Sutton owns a 4-1 lifetime record against North Texas.
OSU Coach Eddie Sutton
Eddie Sutton (Oklahoma State, 1958) is in his 10th year at OSU and his 30th year of collegiate coaching. Under his guidance, OSU has advanced to the NCAA Tournament seven times. Sutton currently owns a career record of 635-252 (71.6 percent) overall and is 205-88 (70.0 percent) at OSU. Sutton is just the seventh coach to reach 600 coaching victories in 28 or fewer seasons.

Scouting the Mean Green
Forward Deginald Erskin and guard Chris Davis tied for the North Texas lead in scoring (21 points) and were first and second in rebounds (eight and six, respectively) in the Mean Green's season-opening loss to Sun Belt Conference favorite Louisiana Tech last weekend. Perennially the owners of one of the nation's toughest schedules, the Mean Green will be trying Saturday to give third-year coach Vic Trilli his 10th career victory.

OSU spoils UALR's debuts of new arena, coach
It was a night of firsts for the Arkansas-Little Rock basketball team Tuesday: Coach Sidney Moncrief, a star player under Eddie Sutton at Arkansas in the late 1970s, was in his first game as coach of the Trojans, and UALR was playing the first basketball game in Little Rock's new Alltel Arena. But OSU ruined the debut party, using a 14-0 run early in the second half to open up a close game and winning 93-64 thanks in large part to a 61.0 shooting percentage.
Mason scores from everywhere against Trojans
Preseason All-American Desmond Mason's game-high 27-point performance against Idaho on Nov. 20 included a dunk, three three-pointers, six free throws and a 9-for-14 shooting exhibition. Against UALR, he was even more efficient, shooting 10-for-11, hitting four threes and adding two more dunks in a 26-point outing. Having passed four players on the OSU career scoring list in the past week, now ranks 15th with 1,158 points, and he needs 39 points to catch Arlen Clark in 14th. He also ranks ninth in OSU history in rebounds (592).
Jonzen uses size to advantage, burns UALR for 19
6-10 sophomore Fredrik Jonzen took advantage of a small Arkansas-Little Rock roster and ran the floor well for a 19-point outing Tuesday that included a seven-for-eight shooting night and a five-for-five effort from the free-throw line. The Swedish native's previous career scoring high had been eight points.
Gottlieb continues to dish it out
Senior point guard Doug Gottlieb led the nation last season in assists and recorded the 13th-best single-season assist total in NCAA Division I history. Already this year, he is well ahead of his school-record assist average from last season. Gottlieb has 33 assists in the first three OSU games of the year, moving him ever-closer to the NCAA's list of the top 25 assist men of all time. With 687 assists in his career, Gottlieb needs 76 more to move into the Division I top 25. His current career average of 7.39 per game ranks 15th in Division I history. Duke's Bobby Hurley holds the total career assists record with 1,076, and Avery Johnson of Southern set a remarkable record for career average with 12.00 per game.
Cowboys rout Idaho to sweep America's Youth Classic
Idaho scored consecutive unanswered baskets just once in the second half as OSU completed a sweep of the America's Youth Classic with an 81-50 victory over the Vandals on Nov. 20. Oklahoma State shot 53.4 percent from the field while holding Idaho to just 29.6 percent, and the Cowboys had a 42-27 advantage on the backboards.
Adkins comes to life in second half vs. Idaho
Senior guard Joe Adkins struggled in the opening frame against Idaho, going scoreless with six field-goal attempts before halftime. But Adkins caught fire in a big way in the second half and scored 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field and a 3-for-5 performance from the three-point arc. Adkins now ranks 30th in OSU history in career scoring (846 points).
Montonati books yet another double-double
Senior forward Brian Montonati earned a reputation last season for high production in a short time, scoring in double figures 11 times, including five when he played 20 or fewer minutes. He seems to have continued that knack this season, after receiving the first start of his three-year OSU career, Montonati battled foul trouble Nov. 19 against Appalachian State but finished with his fourth career double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds) despite playing just 20 minutes. Montonati bettered that effort against Idaho, again scoring 10 points but adding a career-high 13 rebounds.
OSU hits the boards hard
Bolstered by double-digit performances by Montonati and Williams, OSU owned a 53-29 rebounding advantage over Appalachian State in the Cowboys' Nov. 19 victory. The 24-carom margin is OSU's biggest in five years. Ironically, the last time OSU had a bigger edge on the glass was Dec. 2, 1994, when the Cowboys, on their way to an 85-58 victory, collected 48 rebounds while their opponents had 20. The foe in that game? Appalachian State, in the only previous meeting between the schools.
Alexander has understated strong start
Senior guard was a quietly productive player in the Cowboys' two exhibition games, hitting 10 of 15 field-goal attempts and three of five three-point attempts and averaging 12.5 points. He continued hot against Appalachian State, scoring 15 points in 21 minutes while hitting five of eight field-goal attempts and all four of his free-throw tries.
Williams becomes crowd favorite
Freshman forward Andre Williams became a Gallagher-Iba Arena favorite Nov. 17 when he blocked three Global Sports shots in five minutes of exhibition playing time. He solidified his position as a crowd hero in the America's Youth Classic. Playing significant time against Appalachian State due to the foul troubles of Montonati and Fredrik Jonzen, Williams responded with six points and 10 rebounds in a spirited effort. Williams became the first freshman in OSU history to record double figures in rebounds in an OSU season opener. Against Idaho, Williams again tallied six points , four coming on a pair of thundering dunks , and added three blocked shots. He scored a career-high nine points in the victory over Arkansas-Little Rock.
Up next
The Cowboys host Wichita State on Dec. 1 and Texas-San Antonio on Dec. 4, both games tip off at 7:05 p.m. Next up after those games is a Sunday, Dec. 12, date in Oklahoma City against San Diego State, coached by former Michigan boss Steve Fisher.
On the air
OSU games will be broadcast on the OSU Radio Network with KWTV's Bill Teegins handling play-by-play duties and Tom Dirato, OSU coordinator of radio & TV, providing commentary. Dirato and Teegins are in their ninth year as the Cowboys' basketball radio team, and Dirato is calling OSU men's basketball for the 23rd season. The OSU radio network can be accessed through the Internet (www.okstate.com) or on Teamline. Fans wishing to use Teamline should call (800) 846-4700 and use team code No. 1750. Use of Teamline requires a Visa or MasterCard. Teegins and Dirato will had a busy weekend last week, they called the action on Friday's game with Appalachian State, flew to Waco, Texas, to call Saturday's football game against Baylor, flew back to Stillwater and called Saturday night's basketball contest with Idaho. Given that weekend, Saturday will seem easy.
Teegins and Dirato plan to call Saturday's Bedlam football matchup with Oklahoma and then to helicopter back to Stillwater for that night's basketball contest against North Texas.

Head Coach Eddie Sutton
Eddie Sutton (Oklahoma State, 1958) is in his 10th year at his alma mater with a 205-88 record at the school as well as a 635-252 overall mark in his 30th year of collegiate coaching. Under his guidance, OSU has advanced to postseason play in eight of nine years and has won 20 games or more seven times. Sutton is the 20th coach in Division I history to reach the 600-victory mark, and he is just the seventh coach to reach it in 28 years or less, joining Denny Crum, Bob Knight, Adolph Rupp, Dean Smith, Jerry Tarkanian and John Wooden.
Only two active coaches (Knight and Tarkanian) rank ahead of Sutton in both victories and winning percentage, and only one other coach, TCU's Billy Tubbs, joins OSU's boss in having won coach-of-the-year awards in four different leagues.
Sutton, who previously coached at Creighton, Arkansas and Kentucky, is the only coach in NCAA history to lead four different schools to the national tournament. With Sutton and Henry P. Iba among the 600-win club, OSU is one of only three schools, joining Illinois and Kentucky, with two coaches among the all-time top 20.
