Cummings Ties For Big 12 Newcomer Of The Year

DALLAS - Oklahoma State's Tari Cummings, a junior college All-American from Westark Community College, finished in a three-way tie for Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, it was announced today, by the conference office. The Cowgirls as a team were selected 10th out of the 12 schools in a vote of the coaches.
Cummings finished in a three-way tie with Gintare Cipinyte of ISU and Jaynetta Saunders of Texas A&M. All three were NJCAA first-team All-Americans a year ago for their respective junior colleges.
The Iowa State Cyclones, which made the Elite Eight of last year's NCAA Tournament, was tabbed to win the conference title, followed by Kansas and Nebraska. Texas was chosen fourth, while Texas Tech, the Big 12 Champion a year ago, finished fifth.
ISU's Stacy Frese was selected as the preseason Player of the Year by the league coaches, while Sabrina Scott of Colorado was chosen as the preseason Freshman of the Year.
Oklahoma State opens the 1999-2000 season on Sunday, Nov. 7, as the Cowgirls host a team from St. Petersburg, Russia, in an exhibition game at 2 p.m.
