Two Men's Tennis Players Advance On First Day

AUSTIN, Texas - Fran Krepelka and Chris Bates advanced to the field of 64 at The ITA All-American championships in Austin.
Krepelka zipped to a 6-1, 6-1 decision in his first match of the day, beating Chris Chapman of Lamar. In the round of 128, the Cowboy freshman downed Erik Dmytric of California in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. He will move on to play Boise State's Rio Khuharski on Sunday.
Bates also posted a straight set victory in his first match of the day, defeating Nebojsa Murisic of Lamar 6-2, 6-2. The New Zealand native moved on to defeat Stuart Beauchamp of Texas A&M - Corpus Christi 6-2,3-6,6-3. Bates will play Michigan's Ben Cox in the third round.
Also competing for the Cowboys was sophomore Matt Prentice. He lost an opening round decision to Danny McLain of Michigan in straight sets 6-2, 7-5.
