Freshmen help power Cowgirl Softball over Cal
February 06, 2026 | Cowgirl Softball
PALO ALTO, Calif. – Freshman Aubrey Jones went 3-for-3 with a three-run home run to lift the No. 24/20 Oklahoma State softball team to an 8-3 win over California Friday in day two action at the Stanford Invitational.
The five-run margin of victory was OSU's most lopsided victory over Cal in a series that dates back to 1981.
With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 2-1 overall. The Bears dipped to 0-1.
After giving up a pair of runs in the first inning, OSU right-hander RyLee Crandall settled down and limited the Bears to just one additional hit to secure the win in her season debut. Freshman Mya McGowan took the loss for the Bears. Ruby Meylan came on in the sixth inning and struck out four of the six batters she faced to slam the door on Cal's comeback hopes.
RBI doubles from Rosie Davis and freshman Jayelle Austin opened the scoring for the Cowgirls in the first inning, but the Bears responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score.
In the second, Claire Timm scored from third to put the Cowgirls ahead for good when Cal catcher Anya German tried to throw out Aubrey Jones as she stole second. Melina Wilkison then scored Jones with a productive ground out.
Jones created separation in the fourth inning with the first home run of her collegiate career – a three-run blast to left that brought the score to 7-2. Cal scored in the bottom half of the inning, but Karli Godwin put the game out of reach with a seventh-inning single that scored Elizabeth Jaques from first base.
Oklahoma State concludes play at the Stanford Invitational with two games tomorrow. First is a 12:30 p.m. CT rematch with Cal before a 5:30 p.m. CT battle with the host Cardinal.
