STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team got its third straight conference win on Sunday afternoon, beating No. 19 Iowa State, 86-58, in front of 3,941 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.Â
The win was OSU's 10th against a ranked opponent under head coach Jacie Hoyt and saw a historic performance from Stailee Heard. The All-American logged just the third triple-double in program history.Â
The first quarter got off to a slow start for both teams with a combined 21 points between the two. The Cyclones would score first with a layup, but OSU would answer by going on a seven-point run headed by Achol Akot.Â
In the second, the offense would pick up with a back-and-forth battle in the first three and a half minutes, but then Micah Gray would score seven straight and not miss a shot in the quarter. OSU dominated the rest of the frame, going on a 23-3 run lead by Haleigh Timmer and Gray.Â
Going into halftime, the Cowgirls were up 43-21 with Gray ending the first half with 15 points and going 4-7 from three.Â
The third quarter was back and forth with the Cyclones going on multiple runs but in the final three minutes OSU went on a 15-0 run. Timmer led the charge with 10 points, going 2-2 from three and Stailee Heard helped on the defensive end by getting five rebounds.Â
The game's final quarter had a lot of scoring with the two combining 43 points as Heard was going for her first triple double and the third in school history. Heard would eventually get it with around three and a half minutes left on an assist to Timmer.Â
Heard would finish with 18 points 17 rebounds and 10 assists. Timmer would have 16 of her own and a pair of threes to aid in the 28-point win. Lena Girardi had 11 points with three 3-pointers. Â
Oklahoma State will be back in action on Jan. 25 at 2:00 p.m. in Boulder taking on the Colorado Buffalos.Â
