Cowgirl Soccer Earns Big 12 Point

TEMPE, Ariz. – Oklahoma State battled the team with the Big 12's best record to a draw Thursday night as the Cowgirls and 17th-ranked Arizona State played to a 0-0 result at the Sun Devil Soccer Complex.
OSU picked up its first conference point as it moved to 4-4-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the Big 12, while Arizona State saw its seven-game winning streak snapped and is now 8-0-2 and 1-0-1 in the league.
Cowgirl sophomore goalie Logan Marks played a key role in the victory as she tallied a career-high nine saves en route to her third career shutout. Marks, whose previous best for saves in a match was six against Nebraska and Oklahoma, spearheaded an OSU defense that held strong against an ASU attack which produced 28 shots and 11 corner kicks.
In the opening half, the Sun Devils outshot the visitors by a 13-4 margin. The Cowgirls were inches away from finding the back of the net in the 35th minute, but Emmy Hedden's chip shot clipped off the right woodwork.
Just five minutes later, it was Marks rising to the occasion. After the Sun Devils were awarded a penalty kick due to a handball in the box, ASU's Tatum Thomason stepped up for the attempt. Not only did a diving Marks stop the initial attempt, but the Cowgirl keeper saved the rebound shot to keep her clean sheet intact.
In the final 45 minutes, Marks and the Cowgirl defenders continued to hold strong. ASU recorded 15 shots after the break, four of those on goal, and Marks made three of her four second-half saves over the final 8:36.
OSU wraps up its road trip Sunday at Arizona, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. (CDT).
