Denis Kipngetich wins individual race; Cowboys take team crown at Cowboy Jamboree
September 26, 2025 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's cross country took home the crown at the 87th annual Cowboy Jamboree Friday, scoring 36 points and beating out No. 2 New Mexico among several other teams at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course.
Cowboy junior Dennis Kipngetich led the third-ranked Cowboys in the men's 8K, winning for the second time in his career at the Cowboy Jamboree with a time of 23:33.7. The win marks the fifth consecutive individual victory by a Cowboy at the Jamboree as well as the 12th win by the OSU men in the past 14 Cowboy Jamboree meets.
Ryan Schoppe, Adisu Guadie and Laban Kipkemboi were not far behind, placing sixth, seventh and eighth with times of 23:45.5, 23:47:0 and 23:53.1, respectively. Jacob Deacon (14th) and Will Muirhead (15th) also had strong runs, placing the first five Cowboys scorers and six overall in the top 15.
On the women's side, the Cowgirls finished in second place in a loaded field behind defending champions and top-ranked BYU. Isca Chelangat led the Cowgirls with a powerful win at a time of 19:59.1, the second-fastest time recorded at the women's 6K in the Cowboy Jamboree's tenured history. It also marks the fourth Cowgirl to win the Cowboy Jamboree in the past five meets.
"I thought both the men and the women ran really well today," Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Dave Smith said. "Isca and Maureen both got their first taste of collegiate cross country and both were fantastic for the women… And obviously it was nice to have Billah back in the lineup after a redshirt season."
Maureen Rutoh and Billah Jepkirui crossed the line soon after with times of 20:31.9 and 20:39.2, earning fifth and seventh place finishes, respectively. Victoria Lagat (21st) and Lauren Ping (23rd) rounded out the five scorers for the Cowgirls. Overall, the Cowgirls finished second with a team score of 57 points, defeating No. 3 New Mexico amongst others in the process.
Up next for the Cowboys and Cowgirls is the Weis-Crockett Invitational on Oct. 17 in Stillwater and the Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 18 in Columbia, Mo.
