Oklahoma State from a Distance
After playing the toughest schedule in the nation through the first two weeks, the Oklahoma State softball team stands at 21-9 and is 4-3 in Big 12 play, with six wins over ranked opponents. The gauntlet continued into league play as the Pokes opened against two-time All-American NiJaree Canady and No. 16/15 Texas Tech. The league slate continued as the Cowgirls won their lone game against Houston after a historic wildfire outbreak caused cancellations to the first two games in that series. OSU then picked up a gritty series win over Baylor in Stillwater after dropping the first contest of the three-game set. The Pokes then traveled to Arizona where they won game one against the Wildcats in dramatic fashion, but dropped the remaining two games of the series.  Offensively, sophomores Rosie Davis and Tia Warsop have stood out, with Davis leading the team in RBIs (36) and Warsop leading the team batting average (.400). Big 12 Players of the Week Megan Bloodworth (March 4) and Amanda Hasler (March 25) have also been forces at the plate, with the former slashing .312/.379/.584 with six home runs, and the latter pacing the team with nine long balls.
In the circle, Washington transfer Ruby Meylan is performing at an All-America level. The junior from Omaha, Nebraska, is 15-4 with a 1.32 ERA to go with 142 strikeouts in 121.2 innings of work. Sophomore right-hander Katie Kutz began the season as the least experienced pitcher on the staff, however she's now one of the Cowgirls' top arms. The McLean, Va., native was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 18 after securing wins over three ranked opponents in four appearances at the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational. On the season, she is 7-4 with a 3.99 ERA.
