April 17, 2025 | Cowgirl Equestrian
OCALA, Fla. β Oklahoma State's third-seeded equestrian team fell to sixth-seeded Texas A&M via tiebreaker Thursday afternoon in the NCEA National Championship quarterfinals at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Fla.
Β
The two teams battled to a 10-10 tie, but OSU lost the tiebreaker advantage by 31.08 points.
Β
Head coach Larry Sanchez and the Cowgirls finished the 2024-25 campaign 9-6 with a 5-3 record in Big 12 competition. This marks the first time since the 2017-18 season OSU failed to reach the semifinals of the NCEA tournament.
Β
"It was a hard fought meet, and we knew that coming in," Sanchez said. "I am proud of this team, not just for their accomplishments in the arena today, but all year long."
Β
The meet began with Fences and Reining. Scores were calculated by five judges, with the highest and lowest score being dropped and the final tally being the average of the three scores in the middle.
Β
OSU's Fences squad dropped the team score, 4-1. Mackenzie Carreras shined as OSU's lone point scorer, earning a team-high 83 in the event. It's the seventh win on the season for Carreras.
Β
The Reining squad claimed the team advantage, 3-2. All-Americans Quincee Clark and Emma Filiatreau scored two points for the Cowgirls. Ava Bush also scored a point, securing the team advantage.
Β
Clark earned her 10th win of the season and scored a 72 to claim the highest score of the day by any rider in the event. Filiatreau finished her season with 11 wins, the highest among Cowgirl Reiners this season.
Β
The meet entered halftime with OSU trailing by two points. The meet ended with Flat and Horsemanship.
Β
OSU's flat team fell to the Aggies, 3-2. Riley Hogan scored the first point, winning 71.3-67. Hogan's win finishes her legendary OSU career with 68 wins, the third most in OSU history. She finished the season with 12 wins in the Flat event.
Β
Holway defeated Texas A&M's Devon Thomas, 81.7-79.7. Holway concluded her sophomore year with 13 total wins across Fences and Flat. Β The Cowgirls trailed 9-6 heading into the Horsemanship event.
Β
With the meet on the line, OSU's Horsemanship group collected three straight wins from Alana Stanton, June Roberson and Bella D'Onofrio to tie the meet at nine. Claire McDowall scored a 76.7 to take the lead in the final ride. Roberson led the Horsemanship team with 12 wins on the season.
Β
OSU's first ride came from Peyton Baxter, which was held for review. Texas A&M was able to get the point back after the review, tying the meet at 10. The Cowgirls then fell to the raw score tiebreaker.
