Cowgirl Tennis Beats Arizona State for Fourth Consecutive Win

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's No. 34 ranked women's tennis team defeated No. 36 Arizona State, 4-1, on Friday at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater.
With the win, OSU improved to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in Big 12 play while extending its win streak to four. The Cowgirls also picked up their first ranked win of the year and are now 8-1 at home this season.
OSU opened the match by taking the doubles point for the 12th time this season. The No. 39 pairing of Anastasiya Komar and Rose Marie Nijkamp defeated Arizona State's No. 36 duo of Lily Taylor and Patricija Spaka, 6-1, for the first win toward the doubles point.
Kylie Collins and Marcela Lopez followed that with a win over Karin Altori and Sara Svetac, 6-4, to clinch the doubles point for OSU. Gracie Epps and Melissa Ercan had their match go unfinished while trailing Aiya Nupbay and Emilija Tverijonaite, 4-5.
Arizona State put the first point on the board in singles as Nupbay defeated No. 104 Lopez, 6-4, 6-2. OSU answered on the back of a big comeback from No. 81 Komar as she took down No. 33 Tverijonaite, 0-6, 6-1, 6-2. Nijkamp followed that immediately with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Taylor to improve to 10-1 on the season.
No. 58 Epps used a dominant third set to beat Altori, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, and clinch the win for the Cowgirls. Two singles matchups went unfinished, with Ercan trailing No. 49 Svetac, 3-6, 6-4, 0-1, while Collins was ahead Spaka, 6-3, 1-6, 4-3, before it went unfinished.
Oklahoma State will look for the weekend sweep on Sunday as it hosts No. 35 Arizona at 2 p.m., who will take on No. 48 Tulsa at 10 a.m. at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
