Cowgirl Tennis Beats Arizona to Sweep Weekend

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team extended its wins streak to five with a victory over No. 35 Arizona, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater.
OSU is now 12-6 on the season and 6-1 in Big 12 play, and it has tied its longest win streak of the season at five. The two wins this weekend were also the first against ranked opponents for the Cowgirls this season.
Oklahoma State began the contest by winning the doubles point for the sixth consecutive match. The No. 39 pairing of Anastasiya Komar and Rose Marie Nijkamp provided the first half of the point, defeating Arizona's duo of Danielle Tuhten and Josie Usereau, 6-3.
Melissa Ercan and Gracie Epps followed that by beating Midori Castillo-Meza and Belen Nevenhoven, 6-4, to clinch he doubles point for the Cowgirls. Kylie Collins and Marcela Lopez's match was abandoned as they trailed Martyna Ostrzygalo and Zoya Chulak, 5-6.
In singles, OSU secured the first point as Nijkamp defeated Tuhten, 6-4, 6-2. Arizona responded by taking the next two points to tie the match, beginning with 47 Usereau besting Ercan, 6-1, 6-4, followed by Castillo-Meza beating Collins, 6-4, 6-4.
The Cowgirls earned the final two points to clinch the match. First, No. 58 Epps took down Tanvi Narendran, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2, before No. 81 Komar outlasted Ostrzygalo, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, to seal the win. One singles match went unfinished, with No. 104 Lopez leading Chulak, 5-7, 6-4, 4-1.
Oklahoma State will look to continue to add to its win streak as it heads south to take on No. 33 TCU on Friday at 5 p.m. before meeting No. 23 Baylor next Sunday at 1 p.m.
