Cowgirl Tennis Swept by No. 11 Texas

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Oklahoma State's third-ranked women's tennis team saw its ITA Indoor National Championship defense end at the hands of No. 11 Texas, 4-0, in the Round of 16 on Friday in Champaign, Illinois.
The loss drops the Cowgirls to 5-2 on the season and gives them back-to-back losses for the first time since February of 2023. OSU will move into the consolation bracket and take on either No. 1 Texas A&M or Illinois at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday in Champaign.
As always, the match began with doubles, where Texas claimed the point in a tiebreaker. The Longhorns struck first on court three, as Eszter Meri and Sabina Zeynalova defeated No. 41 Gracie Epps and Marcela Lopez, 6-2.
Oklahoma State responded with a win on court one as No. 86 Anastasiya Komar and Rose Marie Nijkamp moved to 6-0 with a win over Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo and Ashton Bowers, 6-2. Texas would prevail on court two, however, as Salma Drugdova and Carmen Andreea Herea beat Kylie Collins and Alian Zack in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (8-6), to claim the point.
In singles, the Longhorns got wins on courts four, five and six to clinch the match. First, Drugdova beat No. 69 Lopez, 6-0, 6-2, before No. 105 Bowers defeated Nijkamp, 6-1, 6-3. No. 78 Vivian Ovrootsky finished off the win for Texas, beating Zack 6-0, 6-3.
Three courts went unfinished, as Collins trailed No. 71 Zeynalova, 2-6, 3-3, while No. 65 Komar was behind No. 92 Meri 6-7 (2-7), 1-2, and No. 40 Epps was tied with No. 25 Herea in the third set, 4-6, 6-0, 2-2.
