Anna Gret Asi Honored By USBWA
February 10, 2025 | Cowgirl Basketball
INDIANAPOLIS – Oklahoma State's Anna Gret Asi became the second Cowgirl to earn national recognition from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association this season, earning national player of the week honors it was announced today.
Following her performance in OSU's win over No. 12 Kansas State on Saturday, Asi joined Stailee Heard, who garnered the same distinction on Jan. 14.
For the period through Sunday, Feb. 9, the five Ann Meyers Drysdale national women's honorees of the week are Asi, Fairfield roadrunner Raiana Brown, USC forward Kiki Iriafen, NC State guard Aziaha James and Saint Joseph's forward Laura Ziegler.
The USBWA women's awards, organized under Mel Greenberg, the USBWA Vice President for women's basketball, are chosen from weekly conference honors as well as at-large additions. Nominations are welcome as each seven-day period rolls along to make sure no one is inadvertently overlooked.
There is no restriction within a week on the number of national honors received within a conference, especially the way realignment has affected membership size.
A senior guard, Asi logged her third 20-point outing of the season and her first since the conference opener against Iowa State with 24 points the Wildcats.
The victory marked OSU's third over an AP Top 25 opponent this year and the 30-point win tied its second-largest margin of victory over a ranked opponent in program history.
The Tartu, Estonia native made eight of her 13 shots from the floor and was 8-12 from beyond the arc. Asi's eight made 3-pointers tied for the most nationally this season by a player in a single game against a Top 25 opponent and are tied for the second most by a player in a Big 12 league game all-time. Her eight treys were a career high as well.
She also grabbed two rebounds and dished out six assists while matching her season high with three steals.
