Cowboy Wrestling Downs Air Force in Conference Opener
November 21, 2025 | Cowboy Wrestling
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The No. 4 Oklahoma State wrestling team defeated Air Force, 34-6, Friday night at Clune Arena.
The Cowboys won eight of 10 bouts, collecting bonus points in six of them. The win improves Oklahoma State to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in Big 12 play, while the loss drops the Falcons to 2-2 with an 0-1 conference mark.
"We came up here and competed hard on a short week," coach David Taylor said. "We were missing some of our guys, and that made a good opportunity for some guys to step up. I think Kody Routledge did a great job making weight on short notice and wrestling well. Cody Merrill did a great job as well; he's really starting to find his offense. We're finding ways to continue to get better, and now we've got to turn around and get ready for Arizona State."
With the dual starting at 165 pounds, true freshman No. 2 Dee Lockett wasted no time getting the Cowboys off to a fast start, pinning Sebastien Martinez in the third period to give OSU a 6-0 lead after one bout.
174-pounder No. 16 Alex Facundo then picked up his second technical fall win of the season over Gunner Cramblett, 21-6. No. 9 Zack Ryder (184) and No. 9 Cody Merrill (197) tacked on to the Cowboy lead, picking up major decisions in their respective bouts to push the Cowboy lead to 19-0 through four bouts.
Heavyweight Konner Doucet continued his dominant start to the season with a 22-6 technical fall win. In the opening five bouts of the night, Oklahoma State did not surrender a takedown.
Kody Routledge (157), in his collegiate debut, also picked up bonus points. After trailing 4-3 in the opening period, Routledge rallied to pick up a 15-6 major decision over RJ Beloncik.
149-pounder Cutter Sheets made his season debut for the Cowboys, picking up the second dual win of his career, 5-2, and former national champion Richard Figueroa II (133) collected his first win as a Cowboy with a 7-6 victory.
Gary Steen (125) and JJ McComas (141), each in his Cowboy dual debut, dropped tightly contested matches.
Oklahoma State heads to Tempe, Arizona, next to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils on Sunday, November 23, at 2 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
