Opening Tips:
- Oklahoma State continues its homestand Wednesday evening against the visiting Prairie View A&M Panthers inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
- The Cowboys are 2-0 after a pair of 24-point wins over Oral Roberts and Texas A&M and are looking to hit 3-0 for the second straight year under Steve Lutz.
- In Sunday's victory over Texas A&M, Christian Coleman led the Cowboy scoring with 16 points and Isaiah Coleman impressed in his OSU debut with 13 points and nine rebounds.
- The Cowboys held an Aggie team that entered the day averaging 101 points on 51.5% shooting to 63 and 32.3% respectively. The latter was a Lutz Era low for an OSU opponent.
- Robert Jennings II is the only rotation player back from last year's NIT quarterfinalist. He started all 35 games.
- The Cowboys have 12 newcomers on the roster, including seven Division I transfers who combined to average more than 94 points for their respective teams last year.
- On a per-40-minute basis, three different Cowboys are averaging upwards of 20 points per game: Vyctorius Miller (28.8), Christian Coleman (25.5) and Parsa Fallah (24.3)
- OSU received a vote in this week's Associated Press Poll -- the program's first since February 2023.
- The Cowboys were predicted to finish 12th out of 16 teams in the Big 12 Conference race.
- OSU is 6-0 all-time against Prairie View A&M. This will be the third meeting in the last five years between the schools.
- OSU is 15-4 inside GIA under Lutz. Last year the Cowboys posted their highest home winning percentage in more than a decade (13-4, .765). Three of the losses came to NET top-10 opponents and the other in the NIT quarterfinals.
- The Cowboys have won 11 consecutive non-conference regular season contests on the white maple, dating back to December 2023.
- This is the third in a stretch of six OSU home games to start the regular season, continuing Sunday against A&M-Corpus Christi (1 p.m., ESPN+).
Last Time on Cowboy Basketball:
Sunday, Nov. 9 | OSU 87, Texas A&M 63
- Christian Coleman led a group of five double-figure scorers with 16 points in Oklahoma State's 86-63 victory over Texas A&M.
- The Cowboys piled up 29 points off of 16 Aggie turnovers and held the visitors to 32.3% shooting from the field. They also dominated in the trenches, doubling up the Aggies 44-22 on points in the paint.
- In his OSU debut, junior guard Isaiah Coleman scored 11 of his 13 points in the first half to help OSU to a 43-29 lead at the intermission. The margin grew to as many as 28 points late in the second half.
- Vyctorius Miller (15 pts, 5 ast), Parsa Fallah (12 pts, 7 reb) and Jaylen Curry (12 pts, 3 stl) also scored in double-figures for the Cowboys, who shot 48.5% from the field.
- The meeting was the first between the former BIg 12 rivals in Stillwater since 2012.
Starting Strong:
- OSU has opened its second season under Steve Lutz with back-to-back 24-point wins. Last year's largest victory margin was a 21-point win at Tulsa.
- The Cowboys have back-to-back 20 point wins for the first time since November 2023 when they dispatched New Orleans and Houston Christian by 28 and 27 points respectively.
- It's been 11 years since OSU last strung together three straight 20-point victories. The Cowboys opened the 2014-15 campaign with convincing wins over Southeastern Louisiana (+28), Prairie View A&M (+22) and Northwestern Oklahoma State (+46).
More Texas A&M Leftovers:
- OSU has won its last two meetings with A&M and now leads the all-time series 33-18 (16-5 in Stillwater).
- The Cowboys improved to 14-0 under Lutz (2-0 in 2025-26) when putting at least 80 points on the scoreboard.
- The Cowboys scored eight fewer points against Texas A&M than they did in Tuesday's 95-71 win over the Oral Roberts but were more efficient, averaging 1.19 points in their 73 possessions (up from 1.12 in 85 possessions against ORU).
- Defensively, they held A&M to 0.86 points per possession (roughly in line with the 0.84 that they surrendered to ORU.
- Reserves accounted for more than half of the Cowboys' scoring total (45 of 87 points). Through two games, the bench unit is averaging 39.0 points or just over 43% of the team total. A year ago, OSU ranked 13th nationally in bench scoring at 30.6 points.
- Through two games, Christian Coleman is 4-of-8 from beyond the arc -- notable considering he attempted just one three-pointer in 72 career games at UAB. Prior to Tuesday, his last make came Jan. 28, 2023 during his time at South Plains Junior College.
- After missing the opener against ORU, junior guard Isaiah Coleman and freshman forward Lefteris Mantzoukas made their Cowboy debuts.
- Senior guard Anthony Roy, who scored 28 points in the Auburn exhibition, missed his second straight game due to injury, as did freshman big man Benjamin Ahmed.
On This Date: Nov. 12
- 2013 – Fueled by 10 first-half triples, No. 8 OSU jumped out to leads of 15-2 and 25-5 in an eventual 93-40 win over Utah Valley. It was the second of five straight 20-point wins to open the season (a school record).
- 2023 – OSU tied a school record with three-pointers in an 85-70 win over Sam Houston. Bryce Thompson and Javon Small hit four each and the Cowboys finished 17-of-33 overall.
The Series with Prairie View A&M:
- The Panthers return to Stillwater for the third time in five seasons.
- OSU is 6-0 all-time against PVAMU with all six wins coming by at least 22 points.
- The Cowboys exploded for 51 second half points to win the last meeting (Nov. 27, 2023) to turn a slim 27-26 halftime lead into a 78-53 rout. Avery Anderson III scored 13 of his team-high 16 in that span.
- The teams first met during the 1993-94 season (a 113-51 Cowboy win). Bryndon Manzer paved the way with eight points and five assists. Teammates Bryant Reeves (22 pts, 15 reb) and Brooks Thompson (25 pts, 6 ast) helped out a bit, too.
- Steve Lutz will face the Panthers for the first time as a head coach.
Scouting the Panthers:
- Three-time SWAC Coach of the Year Byron Smith has led Prairie View A&M to three conference titles and a 2019 NCAA tournament appearance in his first 10 seasons on the job.
- The Panthers return just one scholarship player (6-7 forward Marcel Bryant) from last year's group that finished 5-27 (4-14 SWAC).
- Bryant made 27 starts last year and averaged 9.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks.
- Picked ninth out of 12 teams in the SWAC preseason poll, Prairie View (2-1) opened its season with lopsided home wins over a pair of non-Division I opponents before falling 105-62 on Saturday at Wichita State.
- UTSA transfer Tai-Reon Joseph – a 6-foot-3 guard -- has been the team's top scorer, averaging 20.3 points in just 25.0 minutes per game.
- 6-7 forward Cory Wells (Utah Valley), 6-4 guard Dontae Horn (Ga. Southern) and Bryant are also putting up double-figure points.
- The Panthers have forced 37 steals and 60 turnovers in just three games, led by Horn (2.67 spg) and Wells (2.00 spg).
- Per Synergy, 26.4% of the team's offensive possessions have come in transition, which puts them just inside the top 40 nationally.
- KenPom ranks the Panthers 35th nationally adjusted tempo (OSU is sixth).
Matchup Mashup:
- This is the first of two games for OSU against members of the SWAC. The Cowboys will conclude the non-conference portion of their schedule on Dec. 29 against SWAC preseason favorite Bethune-Cookman (which took Auburn to overtime in last week's opener).
A Cowboy win would...
- Make them 3-0 for the second straight year and for the 55th time in 117 seasons.
- Extend their all-time series lead over Prairie View A&M to 7-0 (all in Stillwater).
- Improve their home record under Steve Lutz to 16-4 (.800), including 8-0 in non-conference regular season contests.
- Boost Lutz's career record to 89-53 in parts of five seasons as a head coach (20-18 at OSU).
- Make them 875-268 all-time in GIA (now in its 88th season), including 307-94 since its 2000 expansion.
- Give them 12 straight non-conference regular season wins inside GIA, dating back to December 2023, and make them 459-60 (.884) all-time.
A Cowboy loss would...
- Be their first in seven all-time meetings with Prairie View A&M.
- Be their first non-conference regular season home loss since Nov. 30, 2023 against Creighton, snapping a 11-game winning streak.
- Be less good than a win.
Up Next: A&M-Corpus Christi
Sunday, Nov. 16 | 1 p.m. CT | ESPN+
- Steve Lutz goes head-to-head with his former team, the A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders, and one of his former proteges.
- Jim Shaw worked two seasons as an assistant coach under Lutz (during which the Islanders advanced to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments). He moved over to the head chair in 2023 when Lutz departed for Western Kentucky.
- Shaw has since led the Islanders to condsecutive 20-win seasons and a 26-12 record in Southland Conference play. His 2024 team finished runner-up in the regular season and earned a bid to the CIT, and the 2025 squad tied for fourth-place.
- OSU and A&M-Corpus Christi ranked 10th and 11th respectively in bench points (1,075 and 1,070 respectively) during the 2024-25 season.
