DALLAS — Cold shooting proved costly for Oklahoma State in an 86-71 exhibition loss to SMU on Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.

The Cowboys shot just under 32% from the field, including 3-of-17 from beyond the arc. They missed eight straight attempts during a pivotal 13-0 SMU run midway through the first half that turned a 19-15 OSU lead into a 28-19 deficit.

Jaron Pierre Jr. led SMU with 22 points, while Boopie Miller added 20. The Mustangs shot 44% from the field and hit 8-of-23 from deep, taking a 40-28 lead into the break and stretching the margin to as many as 17 points in the second half.

Oklahoma State briefly trimmed the deficit to nine with a 7-0 run midway through the second half, closing the gap to 57-48. But SMU responded with a 29-point surge over the final 10 minutes to seal the outcome.

Eight Cowboys scored, paced by sophomore guard Vyctorius Miller's 16 points in just over 20 minutes. Kanye Clary and Parsa Fallah added 12 apiece, and Robert Jennings chipped in 10. OSU won the rebounding battle 49-48, led by Christian Coleman's eight boards. Clary and Jaylen Curry each dished out four assists.

Ten OSU players logged at least 10 minutes, as head coach Steve Lutz continued to evaluate his rotation. Saturday marked unofficial Cowboy debuts for Coleman, Miller, and Clary, who sat out last week's win over No. 20 Auburn. OSU was without injured players Anthony Roy, Daniel Guetta, and Benjamin Ahmed.

Oklahoma State now turn its attention to the regular season, which opens with six straight home games. The Cowboys tip off Tuesday, Nov. 4 against Oral Roberts (7 p.m. CT, ESPN+), followed by a Sunday, Nov. 9 matchup with Texas A&M (1 p.m. CT, ESPN2).
