Cowgirl Soccer Falls To UCF

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State came up short by a score of 2-1 in its Thursday night match against UCF at Neal Patterson Stadium.
With the loss, the Cowgirls fell to 4-9-2 overall and 0-6-1 in Big 12 play, while UCF improved to 9-2-3 and 3-1-3 in the conference.
Emma Alvord scored her second goal of the season for the Cowgirls, and Big 12 saves leader Logan Marks made seven saves, all of which came in the first period.
The Cowgirls had a great scoring opportunity in the fourth minute as Sonora DeFini had a header that clipped the top woodwork and narrowly missed the net on the ricochet. It was one of four shots from OSU in the first 45 minutes, which was outdone by UCF's 12.
The game's first score came in the 31st minute off the foot of UCF's Liz Worden. The goal gave Warden five on the season and was assisted by Ainsley Moy.
The first period would go scoreless for the remainder, with the Knights having six corner kicks to the Cowgirls' one.
UCF also opened the scoring in the second half as Rajanah Reed knocked in her fifth goal of the season, which was assisted by Worden and Jada Silvest.
OSU cut the lead in half in the 66th minute on Alvord's goal. The score came on a header in the box set up by a corner kick from Xcaret Pineda, who recorded the assist for the Cowgirls.
The 2-1 score would hold for the remainder of the contest. In total, the Knights outshot the Cowgirls, 15-7, and led in corner kicks, 6-3.
OSU returns to action Sunday at 13th-ranked TCU, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
