Former Cowboy Cunningham earns first NBA All-Star nod
January 30, 2025 | Cowboy Basketball
Former Oklahoma State guard Cade Cunningham is an NBA All-Star.
The 23-year-old Detroit Pistons standout was one of 14 reserves selected Thursday by the league's coaches for the NBA's annual mid-season showcase.
Cunningham will be the first Cowboy to appear in an NBA All-Star game since 1994 when John Starks represented the New York Knicks.
During his lone season in Stillwater, Cunningham was the 2021 Big 12 player of the year, national freshman of the year and a consensus first team All-American. He averaged 20.1 points while leading OSU to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Cunningham made the NBA's All-Rookie team in 2022 but battled injuries in two subsequent seasons. He's averaging a career-best 25.0 points in year No. 4, and his 9.3 assists per game ranks third on the league leaderboard. Cunningham's play has helped lead resurgent Detroit to a 23-24 start, on the heels of last year's 14-68 finish.
The 2025 NBA All-Star game tips off at 7 p.m. CT on Feb. 16 at San Francisco's Chase Center and will air on TNT.
