Cowgirl Softball Tabbed Big 12 Favorite, Place Six on All-Big 12 Preseason Team
January 24, 2025 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team is the preseason favorite to win the Big 12 Conference title in 2025 and has a conference-leading six honorees on the All-Big 12 preseason team, the conference announced today.
The Cowgirls finished with 99 points and received nine of a possible 11 first-place votes in a vote of the league's head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their team or players. Texas Tech followed in second place with 90 points and two first-place votes, while Arizona, Baylor and BYU rounded out the top five.
This is the first time in program history that OSU is picked to win the conference. The Cowgirls are seeking their first regular season conference title in the Big 12 era to go with their nine Big Eight regular season championships (1980, 1981, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995). OSU won the Big 12 tournament title in 2022.
Oklahoma State finished with a 21-6 record in Big 12 play last season and won all but one of its nine league series. Under head coach Kenny Gajewski, the Pokes have finished in the top three of the Big 12 standings seven times in nine seasons.
The Cowgirls lead the conference with six honorees named to the 2025 All-Big 12 Preseason team as pitchers RyLee Crandall and Ruby Meylan, outfielders Megan Delgadillo and Claire Timm, utility player Tallen Edwards and infielder Karli Godwin were among the 18 players chosen by the league's head coaches.
A 2023 All-Big 12 freshman team honoree while at Baylor, Crandall joined the Cowgirls following two years in Waco. She logged 286 innings of work as a Bear and maintained a 3.13 ERA to go with 197 strikeouts and a combined 33-15 record. Crandall finished the 2024 season ranked inside the Top 10 in the Big 12 in eight different statistics.
One of the hardest throwers in the nation, Meylan transferred to Oklahoma State after two stellar seasons at Washington where she earned All-America honors in 2023 and helped lead the Huskies to the 2023 Women's College World Series. The six-foot righty owns a 27-17 record and holds a 2.31 ERA in 303.2 innings pitched with 343 strikeouts.
The career record holder at Cal State Fullerton in hits (272), runs scored (172) and stolen bases (151), Delgadillo joined the Cowgirls after five years as a Titan. She posted career-bests in 2024 in virtually every offensive statistic as she slashed .417/.442/.515 and logged 86 hits with 10 doubles and 5 triples. The speedy outfielder was also awarded the NFCA Golden Shoe in 2024, given to the top base-stealer in the country, after she nabbed 44 bases on 46 attempts.
Timm enters her junior year in Stillwater after collecting NFCA All-Region honors in 2024. The Buena Park, Calif., native batted .324 last season with 10 doubles, 10 home runs and 30 RBI and came around to score 40 times. She also maintained a 1.000 fielding percentage despite being shifted around the outfield.
A 2023 freshman All-American and 2024 NFCA All-Region honoree, Edwards has been a fixture in the Cowgirls' lineup since she joined the program a year early in 2023. Edwards led the team with 41 runs scored and 27 walks last season while slashing .299/.421/.490 with 10 doubles, six home runs and 30 RBI.
One of the top freshman in the country a year ago, Godwin pieced together perhaps the greatest freshman season ever in the Gajewski era. She picked up a host of honors in 2024 as she was named a top 10 finalist for NFCA Freshman of the Year, second team NFCA All-Region performer and freshman All-America honoree. Godwin was the only Cowgirl to start every game last season and led the team in doubles (13), RBIs (51) and set the single-season freshman home run record with 15 homers.
