Cowgirl Thrower Emma Robbins Breaks 20-Year-Old School Record in the Weight Throw as OSU Indoor Track & Field Kicks off 2025 Campaign
January 18, 2025 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma State men's and women's indoor track & field squads opened their 2025 seasons in style at the Arkansas Invitational and Owen Hewett Invitational meets, highlighted by Emma Robbins taking down the school record in the Weight Throw.
Down in Norman, Okla., at the Owen Hewett Invitational, Robbins entered the ring for her first appearance in a Cowgirl uniform and opened with a toss of 19.74 meters. Her mark on the first throw would remain her longest toss for the next five rounds until her sixth and final throw, in which she launched a 21.37-meter throw to vault herself to the top spot in OSU's all-time record book, which was previously set by Delissa McClain at the Big 12 Championships in 2005.
In the same competition, Rachel Neaves and Johnna Orange joined Robbins in the OSU record books, with Neaves throwing 18.47 meters and Orange throwing 18.31 meters, which rank sixth and seventh in program history, respectively.
The rest of the team competed at the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., with several more impressive performances rewriting the OSU record books. Lauren Smith started the day strong in the Pole Vault, clearing 4.05 meters to move into second place in program history. On the men's side, Crayton Shaw captured the seventh-best mark in school history by clearing 4.75 meters.
Over on the track, Kaylie Politza overtook a pair of Razorbacks in the final stretch of the race to win in a photo-finish with a time of 2:45.67 in the women's 1,000 Meters, which puts her sixth in program history. Politza would later double back in the 600 Meters, using the same race strategy to pass U.S. Olympian Taliyah Brooks in the final 50 meters to win her heat in 1:31.08, good enough for fourth in program history.
In the men's 1,000 Meters, Mehdi Yanouri took home second overall in a strong field with his time of 2:22.00, which is third in OSU history.
Back in the field, Saara Hakanen took home her first individual victory of the season in the High Jump, tying her own school record in the process after clearing 1.80 meters on the day. In the men's Triple Jump, Rajaun Ricketts impressed in his Cowboy debut, jumping 15.20 meters which already puts him second all-time at OSU.
Up next for the Cowboys and Cowgirls is the Razorback Invitational from Jan. 31-Feb. 1, which often attracts top talent from across the country.
