The Basics
The Oklahoma State football team (2-0 overall; 0-0 Big 12) travels to Tulsa (1-1 overall; 0-0 American) for the Gateway First Bank Turnpike Classic on Saturday, September 14. It marks the Cowboys' first road game of 2024, with kickoff at H.A. Chapman Stadium set for 11 a.m. CT on ESPN2.

The Oklahoma State football team is ranked No. 13 in the Associated Press poll and No. 14 in the US LBM Coaches Poll. It continues a run of OSU being ranked in every season since 2008. Including the 2024 season, Oklahoma State has been ranked in the top 15 of the Associated Press poll in 15 of the past 17 seasons and has reached the top 10 in 11 of those 17 years. Although the first College Football Playoff rankings won't be released until November 5, it's worth noting that OSU has been part of the CFP rankings in eight of the past nine seasons entering 2024. The Cowboys have also been included in 43 of the 60 all-time CFP Rankings, which is tied for the eighth-most appearances in the country. Tulsa is not ranked in either poll.

The Gateway First Bank Turnpike Classic
Oklahoma State and Tulsa have a series that includes 76 matchups and dates back to 1914. The only school that Oklahoma State has faced more often than TU is Oklahoma. The Cowboys have won nine straight games in the series, including a 28-23 win in Stillwater in the last meeting during the 2021 season. OSU leads the all-time series, 44-27-5, with Tulsa holding a 21-16-2 edge in games played in Tulsa. OSU coach Mike Gundy holds a 6-0 record against the Golden Hurricane, while TU coach Kevin Wilson has never faced the Cowboys as a head coach. The schools are in the midst of an eight-year scheduling agreement that begins this season. The two teams, separated by just 72 miles, will meet annually from 2024 until 2031, with Tulsa hosting at H.A. Chapman Stadium in even years and OSU hosting in Boone Pickens Stadium in odd years.

Oklahoma State from a Distance
Oklahoma State is 2-0 after defeating back-to-back defending FCS national champions South Dakota State in the season opener and then following that with a comeback win over Arkansas in the second game of the season. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Heisman Trophy candidate Ollie Gordon II ranked fifth in the FBS with four rushing touchdowns so far, and has totaled 215 yards from scrimmage through two games. Quarterback Alan Bowman is seventh in the FBS with 25.5 completions per game, and his top targets Brennan Presley, Rashod Owens and De'Zhaun Stribling have all showed they are capable of making big plays.
