Nehles Returns to Cowgirl Tennis Staff

STILLWATER- Oklahoma State's women's tennis team has brought back former associate head coach Henner Nehles in the same role, head coach Chris Young announced on Friday.
"I am very excited to welcome Henner back to our program," Young said. "He is widely regarded as one of the best developmental coaches in our game and our players will benefit from his knowledge. He had a big impact on our program in just one year previously and I look forward to joining forces again."
In his second stint with the Cowgirls, Nehles joins a staff of Young and fellow associate head coach Jaime Sanchez-Cañamares for the 2024 season. In his first and only season in Stillwater in 2019, Nehles helped guide OSU to a 21-8 season and a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Nehles has served as a USTA national coach while mentoring professional players Ann Li and Katie Volynets in the years since leaving Oklahoma State in 2019.
Nehles also served as a USTA national coach prior to his first season at OSU, training players such as Jelena Jankovic and Sam Querrey. He has also guided young standouts Kayla Day and Amanda Anisimova to world No. 1 junior rankings, and coached former Eddie Herr Girls' 18's champion Kylie McKenzie and Easter Bowl Girls' 18's champion Alexandra Sanford.
In 2016, Nehles was named the Team USA Developmental Coach of the Year by the USTA and has previously served as a USTA faculty coach and the director and head coach of the USTA Regional Training Center. He also spent a season as an assistant women's tennis coach at UNLV in 2006.
Nehles played collegiately at UNLV, where he was voted the 2005 Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Senior of the Year. He was also a three-time All-MWC honoree.
Nehles' hiring is pending a standard background check.
