NFCA Golden Shoe Recipient Megan Delgadillo Signs with Cowgirl Softball
July 01, 2024 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – 2024 New Balance/NFCA Golden Shoe winner and two-time NFCA All-Region honoree Megan Delgadillo has signed with Oklahoma State Softball, head coach Kenny Gajewski announced.
The 5-foot-9 outfielder comes to Stillwater with a year of eligibility remaining after spending five years (including the shortened 2020 season due to COVID) at Cal State Fullerton. Delgadillo collected a host of accolades in her time as a Titan, including All-Big West recognition (three times), 2022 Big West Player of the Year and Softball America Top 100 Players honors.
"Megan was somebody that fit a need we needed," Coach Gajewski said. "Not only on the softball field, but also with the development of other players on our team that I think will really benefit from her leadership, toughness and competitiveness."
Delgadillo leaves the Titans with one of the best careers in program history. She finished as the career record holder in hits (272), runs scored (172) stolen bases (151), in addition to holding the career stolen base record for the Big West Conference. The speedy outfielder finished with the fourth-best batting average in program history (.390) to go with 24 doubles, nine triples, 63 RBI and a .437 on-base percentage.
"I chose OSU because I wanted to play at the highest competitive level while being able to grow as an athlete and a human," Delgadillo said. "The fan base is unmatched and I can't wait to come to Stillwater and compete with the best of the best. This opportunity was once in a lifetime and I'm so excited and grateful for Coach Gajewski and the rest of the staff for the chance to be a Cowgirl!"
Delgadillo began her career during the shortened-2020 season, and was off to a hot start prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. She had reached base in 20 of her 22 games while leading the team with a .408 batting average, 31 hits, two triples and 16 stolen bases.
The Riverside, Calif., native enjoyed a breakout sophomore season in 2022 in which she slashed .404/.462/.444 and became the first Titan since 2015 to record 80 hits in a season. Delgadillo nabbed 50 stolen bases that year, which set Cal State Fullerton and Big West single-season records.
After suffering a season-ending injury 20 games into her junior year, Delgadillo bounced back with arguably the best season of her career to round out her time as a Titan. She batted .417 while she got on base at a .442 clip and tallied 86 hits, 10 doubles and five triples on the season. Her 44 stolen bases (on 46 attempts) led the nation and earned her the New Balance/NFCA Golden Shoe award, as she became the first Big West player to earn the prestigious honor.
Delgadillo held a .961 fielding percentage in her Titan career, collecting 231 putouts and 17 assists.
"She brings something that we've never had in my time here at OSU," Coach Gajewski explained. "Megan is a base-stealing threat every time she is on base. We've had some incredibly fast players in our program, and we have a couple now, but Megan can flat-out steal bases. I think our fans are going to love this aspect of the game that we've never had."
Delgadillo was a prolific high school prospect out of Poly High School in Riverside, Calif., ranked as the No. 24 recruit by FloSoftball and the No. 40 recruit by Extra Innings Softball. She holds the Poly HS record for the most hits in a career (201) and in a single-season (69).
Delgadillo is the fifth Division I transfer to choose Oklahoma State for the upcoming season, joining infielder Rachael Hathoot (New Mexico), catcher Amanda Hasler (NC State) and pitchers RyLee Crandall (Baylor) and Ruby Meylan (Washington)
