Cowgirl Softball Signs Veteran All-Conference Infielder Rachael Hathoot
June 27, 2024 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Two-time Mountain West All-Conference first team performer Rachael Hathoot has signed with Oklahoma State Softball, head coach Kenny Gajewski announced today.
Following an impressive five-year career at New Mexico (including a medical redshirt in her junior year) in which she started all 176 games she played in, Hathoot joins the Cowgirls with one year of eligibility remaining.
"We're really excited to add a player of Rachael's caliber," Gajewski said. "She brings experience, and she'll bring tremendous depth to our infield, having played in middle infield for four years at a high level."
In her four years as a Lobo, the Albuquerque, N.M., native finished with a .330 batting average (BA) and a .386 on-base percentage (OBP), while she also tallied 112 runs scored (eighth in program history) and blasted 10 home runs and 10 triples (tied for fourth in program history) to go with 30 doubles and 75 RBIs.
This past year, her redshirt senior season, Hathoot led the team with a .386 BA, 66 hits and 37 runs scored, with her 66 hits good for the most by a Lobo since 2016. At one point in the season, she also held a 27-game on-base streak and a 16-game hitting streak. In addition to being selected to the Mountain West All-Conference first team, Hathoot was named the New Mexico Female Student-Athlete of the Year.
"I chose OSU because I want to play at the highest competitive level, and being surrounded by great coaches and athletes will only make me better not only in softball but in life," Hathoot said. "OSU has proven itself to be a competitive and winning program and I'm excited to be a part of the Stillwater and OSU community. I can't wait to get to work and have an impact on this amazing program."
In 2023, Hathoot's first Mountain West All-Conference first team season, she led the team in most statistical categories, highlighted by her .396 BA and .611 slugging percentage in addition to her nine doubles, seven triples, and 91 total bases.
After earning first team All-Mountain West honors in 2023 and 2024, she became only the third Lobo in program history to attain all-conference honors in multiple years.
While Hathoot played primarily at shortstop in her final two years as a Lobo, she also has experience all around the infield, playing 42 games at second base, 26 games at third base and four games at catcher. She held a .938 fielding percentage to go with 289 putouts and 366 assists.
"What we can expect to see a kid that's very athletic, can steal bases and can play multiple spots," Gajewski said. "But most importantly, she's going to exemplify the Cowgirl Way from day one."
Hathoot is the fourth Division I transfer to choose Oklahoma State for the upcoming season, joining pitchers Ruby Meylan (Washington) and RyLee Crandall (Baylor) and catcher Amanda Hasler (NC State).
