Former Cowgirl Maja Stark Qualifies for Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games
June 25, 2024 | Cowgirl Golf
STILLWATER, Okla. – Former Oklahoma State women's golfer Maja Stark qualified for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, the International Golf Federation announced today.
Stark, who played at Oklahoma State from 2019-21, earned a spot to represent Sweden at the Summer Olympics after slotting 21st in the latest Rolex Rankings and finishing 18th in the Olympic Golf Rankings (OGR), which were finalized on Monday. With a maximum of four golfers per country, the OGR granted eligibility to the top 15 world-ranked players before using the Rolex Rankings to fill out the field of 60.
The native of Abbekas, Sweden, has qualified to compete in the 72-hole stroke-play Olympic event from August 7-10 at Le Golf National, in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France. Stark joins Linn Grant as players slated to represent Sweden in Paris, while becoming the third Cowgirl golfer to earn a place on the Olympic stage, joining Pernilla Lindberg (Sweden) and Caroline Masson (Germany) in the honor.
Oklahoma State women's golf has carried Olympic representation in every Summer Games since the sport's reinstatement in 2016. The return of women's golf at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games marked the end of a 116-year drought, with women's golf being featured once previously in its history, a 9-hole format at the Paris 1900 Olympic Games.
Stark, age 24, has been a rising star on the LPGA Tour this season, tying for third after finishing 17-under at the Ford Championship presented by KCC in March before logging back-to-back runner-up finishes at The Chevron Championship and JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro in April, firing 11 and 9-under, respectively.
