Cowgirl Tennis Earns Multiple Regional Awards

STILLWATER- Ange Oby Kajuru, Anastasiya Komar, Chris Young and Jaime Sanchez-Cañamares were all recognized in the ITA Central Regional Awards that were released Wednesday morning.
Kajuru became the first Cowgirl in program history to be named the ITA Central Region Most Improved Player, going 20-3 in singles and 20-4 in doubles while remaining in the top-10 of both the ITA singles and doubles rankings throughout the season.
Komar was named the ITA Central Region Player to Watch, joining Vladica Babic in 2016 as the only OSU players to garner the award. The redshirt-sophomore went 13-7 in singles and 21-4 in doubles while playing all matches on court one and remaining in the top-20 of the singles and doubles rankings throughout the season.
Young earned Wilson ITA Central Region Coach of the Year honors for the second time in his career, with the other instance coming in 2015. In his 15th season at the helm, Young led the Cowgirls to their first-ever ITA No. 1 national ranking and held the top spot for 14-consecutive weeks.
Sanchez-Cañamares was named the ITA Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year, joining Matt Manasse in 2017 as the only OSU coaches to receive the honor. In year five with the program, Sanchez-Cañamares helped it to new heights, including program records for final ITA ranking (2), longest win streak (29) and most wins against top-10 opponents (7).
The regional awards come on the heels of Oklahoma State being ranked No. 1 in the final Central Region rankings last week. Kajuru and Komar also claimed the top two spots in the singles rankings the top spot in the doubles rankings while Cowgirls made up six of the top-11 in singles and three of the top eight in doubles.
