Cowgirl Golf, Hinson-Tolchard in the Mix Following Opening Round of Regionals

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Oklahoma State women's golf capped opening-round action at the NCAA East Lansing Regional tied for sixth place on Monday, while Maddison Hinson-Tolchard slots tied for fourth in the field.
The Cowgirls completed the first round at Forest Akers Golf Course 3-over 291 to tie with Michigan State and enters Tuesday one shot behind Denver. USC leads the field at 7-under 281, while Pepperdine and Northwestern stand on the podium two and three shots back of the Trojans, respectively. Bailey Shoemaker of USC leads the individual leaderboard following a bogey-free 65.
The top five teams from each of the six regional sites will qualify for the NCAA Championship on May 17-22, advancing 30 team finalists to Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. In addition, the low individual not on an advancing team from each regional will also qualify.
Hinson-Tolchard paced the Cowgirls, firing a bogey-free, 2-under front nine before an even back nine closed her day at 2-under 70. The back-to-back Big 12 Player of the Year added to her list of accolades Monday, moving to 10th in the program's career counting scores list – earning her 109th to pass Jo Jo Robertson (1995-99).
Marta Silchenko wrapped up the opening day tied for 12th after signing a 71. Silchenko led the Cowgirls with five birdies, the third-most in the 66-player field.
Ellie Bushnell carded a 2-over 74 on Monday, posting a pair of birdies during the day to tie for 34th.
Bushnell's last birdie on hole No. 13 marked the start of a surge for the Cowgirls. On the par-5, 460-yard hole, Bushnell, Thitaporn Saithip and Silchenko each drilled successive birdies to cushion the team scorecard, moving OSU to fourth at its peak.
Saithip's stride on No. 13 marked her last of three birdies on Monday. After opening the day with a double bogey, the sophomore re-collected, closing out at 4-over 76.
Angelica Pfefferkorn concluded the first round with an 81.
The Cowgirls return to Forest Akers Golf Course for the second round tomorrow at 7 a.m. CT. Oklahoma State will tee off on hole No. 10 with Florida and Denver.
