Â
In The Rankings
Oklahoma State is No. 4 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches poll and No. 4 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll. Softball America has the Cowgirls at No. 5 and D1Softball has the Pokes at No. 4. In the NCAA Softball Rating Percentage Index (RPI), OSU slots in at No. 12. Oklahoma checks in at No. 2/2 and is No. 2 on the RPI.
Â
Oklahoma State from a Distance
At 42-8 on the year, Oklahoma State has seven wins over ranked opponents and owns a 19-5 record in Big 12 play, good for third in the conference. Interestingly, this year's Cowgirls are performing at a similar level to OSU's recent Women's College World Series teams despite relying heavily on freshmen and sophomores. Pitchers Lexi Kilfoyl and Ivy Rosenberry both rank among the top four in the Big 12 in earned run average. Offensively, OSU is on pace to hit more than 90 home runs and 80 doubles, both of which would rank in the top five in program history. Freshman infielder Karli Godwin and senior Caroline Wang have combined for 28 home runs and 20 doubles, and both have more than 30 RBIs on the year. OSU boasts a 19-5 record in Big 12 play and has tallied four series sweeps (UCF, Houston, Texas Tech and Kansas) and have series wins over then-No. 19 Baylor, then-No. 2 Texas and BYU. The marquee matchup of the season so far, the Cowgirls bested the Longhorns from March 28-30 thanks in part to a pair of Kilfoyl complete-game shutouts. Kilfoyl has collected Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors on multiple occasions (Feb. 27 and April 2) in addition to winning the Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week for both of those weeks. Wang swept the Big 12 and Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week awards on April 7, following her monster weekend (7-for-9 with four HR, two 2B and 10 RBIs) against Houston.
Â
Notable Streaks and Trends
• The Cowgirls have won 36 of their last 42, including victories over No. 4 Washington, No. 16 Florida, No. 19 Baylor (twice) and No. 2 Texas (twice). In that stretch, OSU has outscored its opponents by a combined margin of 238-84.
• Oklahoma State has scored first in 37 of its 50 contests this season.
• OSU has been ranked in the NFCA poll in each of its last 321 games, dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
• Oklahoma State has won 16 games via run-rule.
• Oklahoma State has won 23 games by at least five runs
• Oklahoma State has scored 10+ runs in 14 games this season.
• OSU has outscored its opponents, 19-4, from the seventh inning on.
• Oklahoma State has at least one extra base hit in all but three contests this season.
• OSU is 9-2 in one-run games.
• Dating back to the Washington game on Feb. 22, OSU has hit 59 home runs and allowed only 19.
• Oklahoma State has hit at least three home runs in 15 different games so far this season.
• Karli Godwin has started all 50 games this season, the only player on the team to do so.
Â
Series History
The Cowgirls and Sooners have faced off 166 times, with OSU trailing the series, 99-67. In Norman, OU leads the series, 42-17.
Â
A Chance at the Big 12 Championship
Sitting in third in the Big 12 standings entering this weekend's Phillips 66 Bedlam Series, OSU has a shot at winning its first regular season title since 1995. If OSU sweeps this weekend's series against OU and Texas drops its series against Texas Tech, OSU will win the championship outright. If the Cowgirls go 3-0 against OU and Texas wins its series against Texas Tech 2-1, then OSU and UT will share the title.
Â
Phillips 66 Bedlam Series
Over the last 10 years, Oklahoma State has dominated the all-sports Phillips 66 Bedlam Series, owning an 8-1-1 record over the Sooners with a combined record (in every meeting in all sports) of 155-121-2 since 2013-14.
Â
2023 Cowgirls vs. 2024 Cowgirls
Despite losing five starters from last year's team, the Cowgirls of 2024, comprised of mainly underclassmen, have not missed a beat. In fact, this year's group of Cowgirls have elevated their play in areas compared to last season. OSU has nearly doubled its home run total from this point last season, sitting at 74 dingers now (compared to 44 at this point last season). Additionally, OSU has hit five more triples this season, totaled 32 more total bases, and is slugging .556, compared to last year's .506.
Â
40 Wins - Again
With their 42-8 record, the Cowgirls of 2024 became the 16th team in program history to reach the 40-win mark, and the fourth-consecutive team in the Gajewski era. Four straight 40-win seasons is a new program record. Oklahoma State is one of just 10 teams in the nation to have at least 40 wins entering this weekend's slate of games.
Â
Sweep, Sweep Victory
Oklahoma State has Big 12 series sweeps against UCF, Houston, Texas Tech and Kansas. In those series, OSU is outscoring its opponents by a combined margin of 92-26 and has hit 23 home runs in those games compared to the opponents' seven.
Â
Clutch Hitting
As a team, OSU is batting .349 with runners in scoring position. Rosie Davis (17-for-33, .515 avg.), Tallen Edwards (11-for-31, .355 avg.), Caroline Wang (18-for-48, .375 avg.), Micaela Wark (12-for-30, .400 avg.) and Karli Godwin (15-for-44, .341 avg.) lead the Cowgirl hitters with RISP. With two outs, the Cowgirls are batting .294.
Â
Fab Freshmen
Roommates off the field, freshmen Rosie Davis and Karli Godwin have been mainstays in the OSU lineup, with Godwin the only Cowgirl to start every game this season. Both NFCA Freshman of the Year Top 25 Finalists, the pair are both inside the top five on the team in batting average (.338 for Davis and .331 for Godwin) and they combine for 70 RBIs to go with 19 home runs and 19 doubles. Additional freshman contributors are Taylor Anderson and Tia Warsop. Perhaps the two fastest players in the Gajewski era, both are threats on the basepaths and commonly used in pinch running scenarios, combining for 26 runs scored. In her first career start at BYU on March 22, Anderson blasted her first career home run. Of Oklahoma State's 290 RBIs so far this season, freshmen account for 25% of them (73/290) and of its 393 hits, freshmen account for 30% of them (111/373).
Â
Sweet Caroline
A two-time conference Player of the Year during her four years at Liberty, Caroline Wang's impact has translated at OSU. Wang leads the team in batting average (.380), home runs (16), doubles (10), RBI (46), hits (57) and total bases (115). Her 16 home runs ranks 21st in the nation and is third in the Big 12. Wang is the only Cowgirl to hit home runs in three consecutive games on two separate occasions this year (March 22-26 and April 5-7). With her 16 long balls so far this season, Wang has set the program record for home runs in a single season by a catcher. Wang leads the team with an OPS of 1.173. She's just as effective defensively, ranking fourth in the conference by throwing out eight would-be base stealers.
Â
Home Sweet Home
OSU has dominated at home since 2019, boasting a 115-16 record at Cowgirl Stadium. At home this season, the Pokes are 19-1, have outscored opponents, 139-37, and have hit 30 home runs while only giving up six. With the latest addition of the right field bleachers added for the Big 12 home opener, a new attendance record was set at Cowgirl Stadium on March 30, when 1,757 fans watched OSU clinch the series against then-No. 2 Texas. In addition to its new single-game attendance record, OSU set a new home regular season attendance record, with 22,070 fans packing into Cowgirl Stadium this season.
Â
Krushin' it Karli
In her first year of collegiate softball, Karli Godwin is establishing herself as one of OSU's best hitters. Godwin is second on the team with 42 RBIs to go with 12 home runs and 10 doubles. Her 12 home runs (and counting) represent an OSU single-season freshman record. With her two-homer day against Texas Tech on April 20, Godwin became the 34th Cowgirl in program history to launch two or more dingers in the same game. Additionally, she's the only Cowgirl this season to record multiple five-RBI games. Among all freshmen nationally, Godwin is fifth in home runs and eighth in RBIs. She is also the only freshman in the Big 12 Conference with double-digit home runs and one of only three freshmen in the conference to have at least 40 RBIs. A converted third baseman, Godwin has adjusted well to her new position at first base, evidenced by her .998 fielding percentage.
Â
Lockdown Lexi
The Big 12 leader in shutouts (six) and victories (19), and second in the conference in ERA (1.16) and strikeouts (109), Lexi Kilfoyl has asserted herself as a prime All-America candidate. Of her six shutouts, four were against ranked opponents, highlighted by a pair of complete game shutouts against then-No. 2 Texas, the No. 2 offense in the nation. It marked the first time the Longhorns were shut out all season, while her two-hitter against Texas in the series finale was the first time UT was held to fewer than six hits. Part of Kilfoyl's success comes from her ability to limit big hits. In 132.1 innings pitched this season, the 6-foot-2 righty has only given up 17 extra base hits to go with 109 strikeouts and only 25 walks. She's holding opposing batters to a .173 average, good for third in the conference.
Â
Remarkable Rosie
The immediate successor to All-American Rachel Becker at second base for Oklahoma State, freshman Rosie Davis has made the transition seamless. Like Becker last year, Davis excels at reaching base, holding an on-base percentage of .430 (second on the team) and has an OPS of 1.004. Davis is second on the team in multiple-hit games with 14. With runners in scoring position, she leads the team with a .515 average (17-for-33) and she leads the team by batting .450 (18-for-40) with two outs.
Â
Make it Grand
The Cowgirls have blasted two grand slams on the year, with Lexi McDonald (April 6 at Houston) and Claire Timm (April 28 vs. Kansas) each notching the first of their respective careers. They are the 37th and 38th Cowgirls in program history to launch a grand slam.
Â
Have A Day, Jil
On her senior day against Kansas, Jilyen Poullard blasted two home runs to lead OSU to a run-rule victory. On the year, the McNeese transfer has launched six long balls to go with a pair of doubles and 25 RBIs.
