McDowall and Hogan Garner All-American Status
April 09, 2024 | Cowgirl Equestrian
STILLWATER – The National Collegiate Equestrian Association announced its All-America teams for the 2023-24 season Tuesday afternoon, with Oklahoma State riders Claire McDowall and Riley Hogan each picking up a nomination.
McDowall and Hogan are now two-time All-Americans, with McDowall claiming a spot on Horsemanship's second team and Hogan landing as an honorable mention in Fences. This year's additions bring OSU's total to 75 All-Americans in program history under head coach Larry Sanchez.
This is the second consecutive year that both McDowall and Hogan were named All-Americans, as both earned a spot on the second team of their respective events in 2023. Both were named to the 2024 All-Big 12 teams, with Hogan also earning a spot on the conference's Flat team.
McDowall was the leading point scorer among all Western riders this season, toting a 10-4-0 record. She recorded double-digit wins for the second-straight year and added four MOPs. She will enter the NCEA postseason competition with a 28-8-1 career record and a four-time Big 12 champion. The senior also sits at No. 7 on OSU's leaderboard in career Horsemanship wins since 2012.
The Colorado native had an incredible five-ride win streak amidst the season, tallying wins against three ranked opponents. Of her four MOPs this season, two came in consecutive meets on the road to help her earn November's Big 12 and NCEA Horsemanship rider of the month. She picked up where she left off in the spring, earning a third-straight MOP against Baylor to start the second half of the campaign.
Hogan also picked up a double-digit win total this season, going 10-4-0. She led the Jumping Seat side with her record in both Fences and Flat, picking up 19 total wins this season. She's a combined 42-17-1 in her career between Fences and Flat, two wins outside of the top 10 in OSU's record book for total wins since 2012. In Fences, she's 29-9-0, which is a tie for seventh in OSU career wins in Fences.
The junior out of Virginia was named the Big 12 tournament's MOP in Fences, going 2-0 and picking up an 87.33 in the championship round against TCU. Hogan reached 87-plus points four times this season, including an OSU record breaking 95 points against Baylor in the spring opener. That score is the highest among all Cowgirl Fences riders by three points and reaches the NCEA's podium as a tie for the third highest mark ever.
Oklahoma State is fresh off winning its fourth consecutive and 10th overall Big 12 Conference Championship crown in March. The Cowgirls have since turned their attention to the NCEA National Championship in Ocala, Florida, April 18-20.
