A Week To Remember
Maddison Hinson-Tolchard will miss The Match Play at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club after playing at the Augusta National Women's Amateur this past week.
After three years of climbing the WAGR, Hinson-Tolchard made her debut in the fifth edition of ANWA this past Wednesday. Hinson-Tolchard, a native of Perth, Australia, served as the lone representative of Australia and as the fifth Cowgirl in the last four years to compete at the event.
After two rounds, Hinson-Tolchard missed Thursday's 36-hole cut line, which settled at 3-over, after finishing 8-over with rounds of 74 and 78 at Champions Retreat Golf Club. However, she teed up for her first time at Augusta National this past Saturday with the 72-player field in ANWA's closed practice round.
Freshmen Feats
For the first time this season, the freshmen trio of Ellie Bushnell, Marta Silchenko and Sammie Miller will all start in Norman.
Bushnell enters Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club fresh off of one the program's top freshman performances in recent memory.
Competing in a field of 93 players, including 27 on Scoreboard's top-100 list, Bushnell finished tied for fourth after finishing 5-under with rounds of 68-69-74 - 211. For Bushnell, her mark set the best finish by a Cowgirl freshman since Rina Tatematsu won the ICON Invitational in 2021.
Tatematsu went on to win 2021 Big 12 Player of the Year and receive WGCA Honorable Mention All-America numbers in her first-year campaign.
Bushnell caught fire early at Papago Golf Club, co-leading the field after an opening-round, bogey-free 69 before leading the board to enter the final 18 after a 4-under 68.
Through 24 rounds of stroke play, Bushnell owns a 72.25 scoring average – the fourth-best by a Cowgirl freshman behind Isabella Fierro (71.76), Clemence Martin (71.84) and Tatematsu (71.85).
Silchenko also enters Norman off a strong performance in Phoenix where she ranked tied for sixth in birdies (11) and narrowly missed the second top-20 performance of her career, finishing tied for 21st. With an eagle during round two of action, Silchenko leads the team in eagles, accounting for four of the team's 11 this season.
Miller is set to make her first-career stroke-play start on Monday after four individual appearances and play at the Bedlam Cup.
Familiar Grounds
Oklahoma State enters Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club on familiar grounds after notching a comeback 5.5-3.5 win over Oklahoma on March 22 in Norman to claim the sixth Bedlam Cup.
After trailing by two team points with four singles matches on the board, the Cowgirls needed three wins to tie and all four matches to win the event outright. With 3&2 wins from Maddison Hinson-Tolchard and Marta Silchenko, the Cowgirls recouped some distance before Angelica Pfefferkorn won 1UP to hand OSU its first lead of the day.
After a 30-minute stoppage after Thitaporn Saithip's tee shot neared a fairway bunker on hole No. 17, the sophomore sealed play to win 2UP.
"I think right now we kind of keep coming closer to the point where we're going to win," Saithip said. "Right now, everybody is working so hard every single day. So I feel like this event built confidence in each other."
