Golden Breaks Heptathlon School Record and Sets Third-Best Mark in NCAA
April 07, 2024 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
TUCSON, Ariz. – Oklahoma State outdoor track & field continued an already impressive season with more record-setting marks at the Jim Click Shootout in Arizona and Arkansas Spring Invitational in Fayetteville.
After a dominant start to the Heptathlon competition in Arizona, Cowgirl Bailey Golden continued the momentum Saturday, breaking the school record in the Heptathlon with her score of 5,887 points. Her mark cleared her previous personal best by 82 points and puts her third in the NCAA currently as she won four of the seven events overall at the Jim Click Shootout.
For Golden, this is the second consecutive season she's won the Heptathlon at the Shootout, earning Big 12 Athlete of the Week honors for her school record performance last season.
Overall, the Cowgirls took gold in six of the seven events in the Heptathlon, with Kessiah Bemis (200 Meters) and Olivija Vaitaityte (800 Meters) winning their respective individual events in the Heptathlon. Vaitaityte took third in the Heptathlon with her score of 5,490 points and Annie Molenhouse rounded out the top 5 with a fifth-place finish.
"Bailey had a great couple of days and will come out of this meet with a solid national qualifying mark," Associate Head Coach Josh Langley said. "Annie and Katie put together a fantastic couple of days… I think everyone is walking away a little disappointed with one or two events, but that's just how the multi's go… It's never a perfect meet, which is why we'll get back to work on Monday."
Over in Fayetteville for the Arkansas Spring Invitational, several Cowboys and Cowgirls earned gold in the respective events. Isis Grant kicked things off with a victory in the open 800 Meters, followed by first-place finishes by Blair Anderson (Long Jump), Caio Almeida (400 Meter Hurdles) and the women's 4x400 Meter Relay squad of Grant, Ansley Scott, Tamara Woodley and Madi Surber.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls continue the outdoor campaign next weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Pomona, Calif., and the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kan.
