STILLWATER – Oklahoma State captured a 9-6 win over Oklahoma in the first game of the Bedlam Series Friday night in front of a record crowd of 8,067 at O'Brate Stadium.
With the win, OSU improved to 20-10 and 6-4 in Big 12 play, while Oklahoma fell to 16-13 and 7-3 in the league.
Zach Ehrhard led the way offensively for the Cowboys with three RBIs, while Nolan Schubart homered and drove in two runs.
Sam Garcia picked up the win on the mound to improve to 4-3; the sophomore worked 5 2/3 innings, striking out nine and allowing two runs. Tommy Molsky closed out the final two frames, allowing two runs on two hits.
The Cowboys jumped out to an early lead when Schubart blasted a two-run home run to right field in the first inning. The homer was Schubart's fifth of the season.
OSU erupted in the fifth inning, rallying for four runs. Colin Brueggemann led off with a single, and walks to Lane Forsythe and Carson Benge loaded the bases with one out. Ehrhard then cleared the bases with a double to left field, and Aidan Meola followed with an RBI double of his own to give the Cowboys a 6-1 lead.
The Sooners added runs on solo homers in the sixth and seventh to cut the OSU lead in half, but the Pokes would rally again in the seventh to extend their advantage.
Benge was hit by a pitch to open the home half of the seventh, and following two outs, walks to Schubart and Kollin Ritchie loaded the bases. Up next, Avery Ortiz laced a clutch two-RBI single through the left side, and Brueggemann followed with an infield single as a throwing error on the play brought home another run to make the score 9-3.
The Sooners added a run in the eighth and homered twice in the ninth, both solo shots, before Molsky closed things out.
The two teams return to action Saturday at 2 p.m.
