Saithip Goes Bogey-Free, Cowgirls Post 13-Stroke Improvement in Second Round at Big 12 Championship

HOCKLEY, Texas – Thitaporn Saithip fired a bogey-free 69 as Oklahoma State women's golf posted a 13-stroke improvement to slot ninth after two rounds of the Big 12 Championship on Friday.
After an opening total of 17-over 301, the Cowgirls wrangled a second-round score of 4-over 288 to enter the final 18. With the day's fifth-best scorecard, Oklahoma State hangs one stroke back from seventh-placed Oklahoma and Baylor, while Texas leads the field at 1-over 569.
Oklahoma State leads the field with 122 pars on the tournament while posting pars on more than 75% of holes (68-of-90) in the second round.
Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn of Iowa State leads the individual leaderboard at 8-under 134 after carding a historic 6-under 65 round on the par-71 layout. Chul-Ak-Sorn joined former Cowgirl Isabella Fierro for the lowest round in Big 12 Championship history on Friday, with Fierro signing a 7-under 65 in 2021.
Saithip was the biggest riser in Friday's action at The Clubs at Houston Oaks, using her 2-under 69 to skyrocket 23 spots on the individual leaderboard and place tied for 11th after 36 holes. The sophomore marked her first bogey-free round as a Cowgirl in play, using birdies on holes No. 8 and 17 to fuel the effort. With her card, she posted the first bogey-free round at the Big 12 Championship since former Cowgirl Lianna Bailey in 2021.
Ellie Bushnell ended her round 1-over 72 to slot tied for 35th. Starting on hole No. 10, Bushnell opened the day similar to her last, carding a birdie on the par-4, 351-yard hole. Through two rounds, Bushnell and Savannah Barber of Oklahoma are the lone players in the 65-player field to birdie both of their opening holes.
Marta Silchenko posted her first postseason counter on Friday, closing the day at 2-over 73.
Angelica Pfefferkorn continued her consistency, signing her second 74 of the tournament to place tied for 32nd. Pfefferkorn ranks second in the field in pars with 27, trailing the field leader by one.
Maddison Hinson-Tolchard ranks third in the category with 26 pars through two rounds, closing day two with a 4-over 75. Hinson-Tolchard has also posted identical rounds in Hockley and ranks 40th at 8-over 150.
The fifth-seeded Cowgirls return to The Clubs at Houston Oaks for the final round on Saturday. Action for the final round will be aired by Big 12 Now on ESPN+, while the field is set to begin with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. CT.
