Cowgirls Conclude Opening Round at Big 12 Championship

HOCKLEY, Texas – Oklahoma State women's golf wrapped up its opening round at the Big 12 Championship tied for 10th at The Clubs at Houston Oaks on Thursday.
The Cowgirls ended the first round at 17-over 301 and enters Friday tied with in-state foe Oklahoma. Texas leads the 13-team field at 2-over 286, while Houston and TCU stand on the podium, carding 4-over 288 and 7-over 291 on the day.
Oklahoma State caught some early momentum on the par-71, 6,249-yard layout as it opened the day 2-under with birdies from their first two to the tee in Angelica Pfefferkorn and Ellie Bushnell. The Cowgirls bounced around the top spot for most of the front nine. However, their run was stymied with two birdies on the back nine.
In her first postseason start, Pfefferkorn briefly held the individual lead after birdieing her first two of three holes, but the senior ultimately capped the day tied for 25th at 3-over 74.
Thitaporn Saithip slotted in tied for ninth after an even front nine, but a pair of bogeys and a double bogey on hole No. 17 moved her to 4-over 75 and tied for 34th entering Friday.
Maddison Hinson-Tolchard also signed a 75 in opening-round action.
As two of 19 freshmen in the field, Bushnell and Marta Silchenko closed their first postseason round on Thursday, signing rounds of 77 and 78, respectively.
Bushnell started the day 1-under thru six holes after an opening hole birdie and five pars, but ultimately closed the day 6-over and tied for 49th. Silchenko tied Saithip for the most birdies on Thursday with three, but double bogeys on holes No. 10 and 17 stifled her scorecard.
The fifth-seeded Cowgirls return to The Clubs at Houston Oaks for the second round tomorrow at 9 a.m. CT. Oklahoma State will tee off on hole No. 10 with No. 4 Baylor and No. 6 Oklahoma.
