Regular Season Round-Up
Ranked No. 42 in the Scoreboard rankings, the Cowgirls enter Hockley behind a core that has recorded a collection of strong showings against premier fields.
At the helm, back-to-back Big 12 Player of the Year Maddison Hinson-Tolchard enters the par-71, 6,249-yard layout behind a career year coated with appearances at premier amateur tournaments.
Returning to the course after debuting at ANWA, Hinson-Tolchard is on pace for the Cowgirls' third-lowest scoring average in program history (70.9) while adding a host of accolades to the record books. This season, she tied the program's lowest 18-hole score (64) at the Schooner Fall Classic in September, sits 10 birdies away from passing Kenzie Neisen's 369 career birdies for second in OSU history and owns the program record for par-or-better rounds with 67 and counting.
Behind Hinson-Tolchard, freshman Ellie Bushnell and Marta Silchenko have emerged as key members of the Cowgirls' lineup.
A native of Granite Bay, California, Bushnell became the first Cowgirl freshman since Stephanie Astrup in 2017-18 to start in every regular-season tournament for the Cowgirls, and the numbers back that decision. This season, she has posted a 72.56 scoring average – the fourth-best by a Cowgirl freshman (minimum of 15 rounds) – while finishing tied for fourth at the PING/ASU Invitational in March. In Phoenix, she went 24-2-1 against Scoreboard top-100 golfers while carding two of her team-best seven 60s rounds.
Silchenko has also shined in spurts this season, taking an individual lead at the Puerto Rico Classic in February while adding nine par-or-better rounds.
Thitaporn Saithip has also established herself as a consistent option this season as the sophomore has ended par-or-better in three of her last four 54-hole tournaments. Saithip has yet to fire in the 60s this season, but her steady scoring average (73.63) has made her a key piece this spring.
Angelica Pfefferkorn and Sammie Miller have also added value this season. Becoming a core starter this season, Pfefferkorn ended the fall with a 6-under 66 at the Jim West Challenge and has provided a host of counters while Miller has started in the previous pair of tournaments.
Championship DNA
Oklahoma State has won 25 conference titles, including 11 Big 12 championships - more than any other league foe.
The Cowgirls have posted some heroic championship weeks in recent years, and have carried a championship track record since its second year of existence. The Cowgirls swept last year's championship, fending off an attack from the Baylor Bears in the final round, as Maddison Hinson-Tolchard shot par-or-better in all three rounds to earn individual honors while Clemence Martin sank a clutch putt on hole No. 16 to help scare off the Bears and finish solo third.
Oklahoma State first reached the conference pinnacle at the 1977 Big Eight Championship, the league's second-annual event, behind OSU Hall of Honor member Ann Pitts. Since that spring in Norman, OSU has dominated both the Big Eight and Big 12 Conference in women's golf. Oklahoma State won six consecutive Big Eight titles from 1984-89 and won the final three championships in the old Big Eight from 1994-96.
Once the Big 12 formed, it took two seasons before the Cowgirls won its first league title in 1999 before rattling off three-straight wins from 2001-03. The Cowgirls have two of the last three team titles, leveraging its strong showing in 2021 to a runner-up placement at the 2021 NCAA Championships.
Additionally, the program has produced 27 individual championships, with 11 coming in the Big 12.
