Three Cowgirls in Top 20, Round Two Suspended in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Two Cowgirls stood as the individual leader during day one of the Valspar Augusta Invitational and three place in the top 20 as Oklahoma State women's golf enters the weekend tied for seventh.
Play was suspended midway through the second round at Forest Hills Golf Club due to darkness, leaving the Cowgirls 2-under to the course thru 6-11. OSU closed the opening round with a 1-under 287 and is currently one under in round two. Ole Miss leads the field with a 14-under par showing, highlighted by a 12-under 276 to open the day.
Weather permitting, the field will return to action on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. as precipitation is anticipated all day Saturday. On Sunday, teams will resume second round action before aiming to complete the three round, 54-hole tournament.
The Cowgirls started on fire at the 6,261-yard, par-72 Forest Hills Golf Club, holding a share or sole possession of first place for most of the front nine. During the early segments of play, Ellie Bushnell and Thitaporn Saithip each carried the individual lead as Bushnell carded a birdie to go 2-under thru her sixth hole and Saithip went 3-under after eight holes to claim the solo lead.
During the front nine, Oklahoma State carried the team and individual lead as Saithip paced the individual leaderboard at 3-under thru 8 while Bushnell and Maddison Hinson-Tolchard were tied for second in the 93-player field at 2-under thru nine holes.
The Cowgirls steadied in the closing portions of round one, leaving room for the field to catch up and overtake OSU's top spot. Oklahoma State entered the second round in seventh.
Saithip enters Sunday tied for sixth in the field at 4-under par. The sophomore ended round one with a bogey to shoot 2-under 70 but has recouped her losses with five birdies thru 11 holes of round two.
Hinson-Tolchard and Bushnell are one shot behind Saithip at 3-under par. Hinson-Tolchard rattled off six birdies to sign a 68 in the opening round, while Bushnell carded a 1-under 71 before sinking back-to-back birdies and seven pars in the front nine of round two.
With her collection of birdies on the day, Hinson-Tolchard passed her former teammate, Lianna Bailey, for fourth in OSU's 30-year record book, as the senior now has 346 birdies and counting.
Marta Silchenko and Angelica Pfefferkorn enter Sunday tied for 80th and tied for 87th, respectively. Silchenko carded a counting score of 78 in the opening round, while Pfefferkorn signed an 81.
Competing as an individual, Sammie Miller is tied for 84th.
