March 30, 2024 | Cowgirl Equestrian
WACO, Texas – Five Cowgirl equestrian riders earned All-Big 12 status following OSU's 10-9 victory over TCU in the Big 12 Conference Championship meet in Waco on Saturday.
Riley Hogan and Grace McReynolds each earned a spot on the Fences team, with Hogan also earning a spot on the Flat team. Claire McDowall, Emma Filiatreau and Tristan Bagby highlighted the Western discipline, with McDowall earning a spot on the Horsemanship team and the latter two on Reining's team.
OSU's five total riders earning a spot on the All-Big 12 team is the most since 2019, and its six overall accolades is the most since 2014.
Hogan become the first Cowgirl since Katy Krshka in 2015 to earn multiple conference accolades in the same year. She's the fourth Cowgirl to accomplish multiple All-Big 12 recognitions, joining Krshka and fellow Jumping Seat riders Samantha Harrison in 2014 and Allison Joyce in 2013. It's her second and third honor, after claiming a spot on 2023's Fences team.
Hogan never allowed more than two losses in a row all year in Fences and tacked on three MOPs, including a conference tournament MOP over the weekend. Overall, she ended the season in Fences 10-4-0.
Her most notable MOP came in the spring opener against Baylor, where she scored a 95 when faced with a 90. It's the highest score by any Cowgirl rider by three points and is tied for the third-highest score in NCEA history. According to the NCEA record book, her 95 points are the highest among any Big 12 rider in Fences history by one point.
In Flat, Hogan led the group with seven wins and averaged over 80 points, the only Cowgirl this season to accomplish that feat in at least 10 rides. Her average margin of victory was over seven points, with her biggest win being an impressive 85-70 win over then-No. 8 Baylor to earn her first of two MOPs in Flat this season.
She had a strong conclusion to the regular season, going 4-1 in the spring and helping OSU's Flat group to outscoring their opponents 16-6 in those five meets. She set a career high 87 in the event three separate times this season, which is the third-highest mark of all Flat riders this year.
McDowall earned her second-straight career all-conference selection in Horsemanship. She had the highest win total and MOP count of all Cowgirls in any event this season and accounted for 30 percent of OSU's Horsemanship points. She was named the NCEA and Big 12 Horsemanship Rider of the Month in November.
She scored a season-high 78.5 in the season opener against TCU en route to her first of four MOPs on the year. Her other three came in consecutive meets in between the fall and spring seasons.
Of her 10 wins, six came against ranked opponents. Additionally, she won all six of her regular season rides against Big 12 opponents, including twice against No. 1 TCU.
McReynolds, Filiatreau and Bagby earned their first career all-conference honor.
McReynolds had a resurgence in Fences during the spring season after concluding the fall season with a 1-4-1 record. She ended the regular season on a five-ride winning streak in the regular season and added a pair of wins in the conference tournament. She earned February's Big 12 Rider of the Month in Fences while also taking home the NCEA's Rider of the Month in March.
In her historic spring season, she won all five rides by a combined 91.5 points without riding against a zero, for an average win margin of 18.3. She earned two MOPs in the five meet span and earned a career-high 88 at Fresno State.
Filiatreau led OSU's Reining squad this season with an 8-5-1 record as a freshman. She has established herself as a consistently high scorer with the highest among all Cowgirls this season and dropping below 70 points only twice in 12 meets.
She was named the Big 12 Co-Reining Rider of the Month in November, becoming the first Cowgirl freshman Reiner to claim the conference's monthly honor since 2017. A five-ride win streak halfway through the year propelled her to that honor.
Bagby had the strongest spring season of all OSU Reiners. She posted a 4-1 record at the resumption of the season, with all four wins coming consecutively. She currently sits at 8-6-0 entering the national tournament in Ocala, Fla.
She was competitive both at home and on the road, totaling a winning record in both splits. She was named the Big 12 Co-Reining Rider of the Month in February, after going an undefeated 3-0 and averaging over 70 points per ride.
