STILLWATER, Okla. – Riley Hogan had a career day as OSU equestrian breezes past Baylor, 12-6, Friday afternoon at Pedigo-Hull Arena.
With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 3-5 on the year with a bolstered 3-1 record in Big 12 competition. The Bears fall to 2-7 and a 1-3 Big 12 record. For OSU, it extends its home record against the Bears to 20-0 and 13-straight overall. It's head coach Larry Sanchez' 37th win against Baylor, the most wins he has against any team in the NCEA.
"I am proud of the way the girls rode today," Sanchez said. "They rode with a lot of confidence and had some high scores because of that. We still have to improve in a couple of areas, but I really like the direction we are headed."
In line with their dominance, the Cowgirls swept the MOP selections. It's the second time this season OSU has accomplished this feat, the last being against Fresno State in the fall.
The meet began with Fences and Reining, where the Cowgirls claimed the team advantage in both events.
The Fences squad dominated Baylor, claiming four of the five available points. It's the fifth time this season OSU claimed the team advantage in Fences and the third time earning four or more wins.
Hogan scored the first point for the Cowgirls in Fences. Despite facing a 90-point outing by Baylor's Maddie Vorhies, Hogan surged ahead to claim a program high 95 points in the event. She breaks the previous regular season best in Fences, set by Hope King last season, by three points. Hogan's previous career best was 89, set last season against Lynchburg.
In line with her historic performance, Hogan earned the third MOP of her season and fifth in her career in Fences. She joins Bella Holway and Sydney North as the only 90-plus point scorers in Fences this season. Holway and North scored 91 and 90, respectively, at SMU in the fall.
Team captains North and Grace McReynolds followed Hogan with impressive wins of their own. North picked up an 87-83 win against Dominika Silvestri, while McReynolds dominated her opponent 86-70.
Freshman Bella Holway claimed the second-highest score of her career with an 86-83 win to claim the last Fences point for the Cowgirls.
In Reining, the Cowgirls prevented the Bears from scoring a single point. It's the first time this season that OSU didn't allow an opponent to score a point in Reining.
Quincee Clark led the way for the Cowgirls with a season-high 72.5-point performance. Clark claimed her third MOP this season and sixth of her career. She's locked in a three-way tie for the highest score this season and holds a place in three of the top-five Reining scores this year.
Tristan Bagby and Emma Filiatreau claimed the remaining points in Reining with a pair of tight wins. For Filiatreau, it's her fifth-straight win, dating back to the fall season. The freshman phenom holds the most wins by any Reiner this season with six.
After an intermission, the meet resumed with Flat and Horsemanship.
The Flat riders put forth their most complete effort of the season, earning the team advantage 4-1. It's the first time this season that the Flat squad earned the team advantage.
Ella Reinauer scored the final point in the event after posting an 85-82 win. Reinauer's successful senior campaign continues with her third 85-plus point performance. Her efforts earned her the second MOP this season.
North, Hogan and Hannah Dodd scored the remaining three points in the event. Hogan scored 87 points, to average 91 points between both events on the day. Her total was the most scored by any rider in the event on the day. North scored her second win in Flat on the season while Dodd earned the first win of her career.
Claire McDowall once again led the charge in Horsemanship. She had the best score among all riders on the day to earn her fourth MOP this season and third in a row. She now holds a spot in the top three highest scores among Horsemanship rides this season.
