Cowgirls Outlast No. 6 Pepperdine, Remain Undefeated

STILLWATER – The third-ranked Oklahoma State women's tennis team improved to 5-0 after a gritty win over No. 6 Pepperdine, 4-2, Saturday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
This marks the fourth top-15 win for the Cowgirls, and second top-10 win, on the young season. They also improve to 5-0 on the year, which continues to be their best start to a season since 2020.
The doubles point went the way of the Cowgirls, beginning with a strong showing from Ayumi Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez as they took down Lisa Zarr and Vivian Yang, 6-4. On court 3, Safiya Carrington and Kristina Novak sealed the deal, taking down Nikki Redelijk and Anna Campana, 6-4.
Anastasiya Komar and Ange Oby Kajuru battled back from down 1-5 to take the lead, 6-5, before leaving the match unfinished due to the sweep.
Oklahoma State's No. 60 Miyamoto got singles play off on the right foot, making quick work of Pepperdine's Jasmine Conway, 6-0, 6-3.
With the Cowgirls up 2-0, the Waves quickly turned the tide winning on courts one and two. Zarr took down No. 13 Komar, 6-2, 6-4, and No. 21 Broadus gutted out a three-set win over No. 2 Kajuru, 3-6, 7-5, 6-0.
Knotted at two apiece, Cowgirls Lucia Peyre and Novak answered the bell on courts three and six. No. 53 Peyre was fantastic in the second and third sets, overpowering No. 96 Janice Tjen, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Novak sent the Waves home with a gutsy win over No. 79 Campana, 6-3, 6-7(7-4), 6-3.
No. 62 Carrington and No. 77 Redelijk were set for a thrilling finish on court four before the match was clinched. Deadlocked in a close one that favored Carrington, 6-7(4-7), 6-2, 5-4 the match went unfinished due to the Cowgirls' win.
Looking to build on its undefeated start, Oklahoma State will travel to Seattle, Washington, on Feb. 8 for the ITA National Indoor Championships. The win over No. 6 Pepperdine will help the Cowgirls gain a higher ranking in that tournament as the seeding does not release until Feb. 6.
