Cowboy DMR Collects Fourth Straight Conference Title on First Day of Big 12 Indoor Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma State track & field kicked off competition at the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas, crowning a pair of Big 12 Champions in the process.
After the first day of action, the Cowgirls are currently leading the field with 33 points overall to get them one step closer to defending their first conference track & field title.
Taylor Roe kicked off the weekend for the Cowgirls by successfully defending her Big 12 title in the women's 5,000 Meters Friday night with her time of 15:32.03. Her time also broke the meet and facility record. Overall, Roe's second straight title in the 5K gives her seven Big 12 individual championships in her career, with five indoors, one outdoors and one in cross country.
In the process, Roe pulled Molly Born along to a second-place finish and a likely NCAA qualifier in the 5K with her time of 15:35.62. The pair up front gapped the field by nearly 18 seconds overall. Victoria Lagat also took home All-Big 12 honors with her fourth place overall, giving the Cowgirls 23 points overall in the event.
The second Big 12 title of the weekend came via the men's Distance Medley squad of Brian Musau, Ben Currence, Laban Kipkemboi and Ryan Schoppe. The Cowboys collected their fourth-straight conference title in the event with their time of 9:29.41, which broke the previous meet and facility record by over two seconds.
The Cowgirl DMR of Maddie Salek, Isis Grant, Kaylie Politza and Sivan Auerbach collected a second-place finish, clocking a time of 11:20.25 and contributing a valuable eight points to the championship effort.
Several other Cowboys and Cowgirls earned All-Big 12 honors on the first day of the competition, with Denis Kipngetich (third place, 5,000 Meters), Blair Anderson (fifth place, Long Jump), Maddie Meiner (seventh place, Pentathlon) and Sam Mason (eighth place, Weight Throw) all scoring in their individual events.
In the preliminary events, Billah Jepkirui earned a Big Q straight to the finals with her time of 4:40.95 in the women's Mile. Joining Jepkirui in the Mile final tomorrow are Heidi Demeo and Grace Boone. In the women's 600 Yards, Tamara Woodley, Isis Grant and Jinah Mickens-Malik all secured their place in the next round with their respective times of 1:20.62, 1:21.31 and 1:21.97.
For the 1,000 Meters, Sivan Auerbach holds the first-place qualifier spot with her time of 2:46.98. She is followed by Grace Boone and Mandeep Sangha with their times of 2:47.93 and 2:49.10. Rounding out the women's qualifiers, Gabija Galvydyte and Jepkirui secure the second and third place spots in the 800 Meter final with their times of 2:05.87 and 2:06.11.
Over in the men's prelims, DJ McArthur placed third in the first round of the 600 Yards with his qualifying time of 1:09.09. Justin Smith and Darian Tarver also made the final of the 600 Yards, earning their spots through time qualifiers.
Alex Stitt takes the first qualifying spot in the men's 1,000 Meters with his time of 2:23.91. Freshman Brian Musau is also moving onto the next round of the 1,000 Meters with his time of 2:25.25. In the 800 Meters, two cowboys secured their spot for tomorrow's final as Mehdi Yanouri and Hafez Mahadi each punched their tickets. Philip Frank also currently sits second overall in the men's Heptathlon with a score of 3,170 points through four events.
The Cowboys head into the final day of competition Saturday fourth overall with 21 points. Action begins Saturday with the Heptathlon 60 Meter Hurdles at 11 a.m. CT. Finals in the running events kick off at 2 p.m. CT on ESPN+
